No Grief Is As Devastating As Losing A Child, Tinubu Consoles Chimamanda by Pakute(op): 7:39pm On Jan 08
President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the young son of acclaimed author
Chimamanda Adichie and her husband Ivara Esege.

The tragic news was confirmed in a family statement issued on Thursday. The statement revealed that the 21-month-old child passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness.

The family described themselves as devastated and requested privacy as they grieve.

In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt condolences.

The president expressed his profound empathy for the family, sharing in their mourning.
Tinubu also offered prayers, asking that the Almighty God grant the grieving family strength and solace in this trying period.

“With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi,” the statement reads.

“As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.

“I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them.

“Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally, and I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour.

“My prayers are with the family.”

The 48-year-old writer married Esege, a Nigerian doctor, in 2009. Before Nkanu’s death, the couple had three children: a daughter born in 2016 and twin boys born in 2024.

During a 2025 interview with The Guardian, the author revealed she kept the birth of her twin boys from the public to “protect” them.

We can disagree to any extent politically but death is where we draw the line. We must always show empathy at moments like this even though I’ve seen how the other side don’t care about such ideals.

I join Mr. President in condoling with Chimamanda and her family. May God give them the fortitude to bear the pain of losing a loved one.

This only applies to your camp, the other camp use such misfortunes to claim some sort of victory. Remember Okupe and one other man(Jesu..whatever?)

That is what set us apart from them. Yorubas will tell you that “taba nja, bi kaku ko” meaning if we are fighting, it should not be to the point of death. Those are the Omoluabi ethos and ideals that define who we are. We won’t stop being who we are because of them.

Almost 12 hours, Gbajue has not uttered a single word. But now that the President has console the woman, you will now see Gbajue suddenly remember her, running to her house trying to outdo the President to score a cheap point. Meanwhile, the woman is an Obidient. Gbajue is fake, we always know that TIME will expose him, you can't cover a smoke.
The biggest political fraud in history.

But there is something about Tinubu, which will help any young man progress in this life. It’s the spirit of looking beyond hard hearted tendencies. I don’t think he has real enemy . He knows how to disagree to agree.
I don’t even know how to put it. But give it to him when it comes to shifting the golden mean. It’s not about compromising but a strategic diplomacy to conquer and at the same time not stooping too low.

My deepest condolences to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr. Ivara Esege on the heartbreaking loss of little Nkanu Nnamdi. No parent should ever have to endure such pain. This is a grief beyond words.
President Tinubu’s message comes from a place of deep personal understanding. Having lost his own first son, Wale, he knows firsthand that there is no wound as devastating as losing a child. His words reflect not protocol, but a father’s broken heart reaching out to another grieving family.
May God grant the family strength, comfort, and peace in this unimaginably painful time. May Nkanu’s gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may love surround the parents as they mourn. 🕊️

Good morning.

I can imagine if it were to be the president that lost someone, children of hate and their gbajue supleme leader would have started mocking him, the same low budget writer was badmouthing the president the other day. Tinubu make me realise that” whom God has blessed, he will always put his enemies at his mercies!

Tinubu is more Christian than 95% of Nigerian Christians.

His brand of progressivism is out of this world, and brings his hard-core vocal enemies to his side. God, give me grace and strength.

There is a reason our people say one should not cry more than the bereaved. It is strange to see such public wailing for a child she never carried in her womb nor birthed.
She needs to have several seats abeg.
Someone who doesn't know what it means to be called a mother.

Rest in peace young champ😎

Tinubu, a very civilized leader. He has helped many in the past that are working for him everywhere now. Doing what he has to do without going to the press for snapping. Condolences to Chimamanda.
