Your quality paint is as good as the screeding underneath. If screeding fails, paint peels and the whole process is repeated at extra cost. Although stabilizing solution may solve weak screeding before painted on. Image posted with permission.

Hello house, please does anyone know the average cost of installation of water filtering system for a building with 6 flats. The current water output contains lead and it's colored. The idea is to have the borehole pump the water into a filtering system then the filtered water is transferred to the tanks. 1 Like |

Guys, please help critic these quotations for roofing wood-work. The house is a conjoined 3br, 2br and 1br, all with dimensions of 12m by 27m. The 3br has a penthouse in the dining area with dimensions of 4m by 6m. The house (plus penthouse) is fitted with polystyrene parapet installed with the roof beam, 3 layers after the lintel. There are 2 shops too. For both quotes, a max height of least 2.5m was considered. Abeg, what are your thoughts?

hamtabfawaz:I am yet to see a space fitted with POP that also has ceiling fan. They never work with fan. Is this normal? Thats why I dont like POP. I cant stick with only AC. There will definitely be periods of power issues even if you have an inverter setup. And I dislike standing fans because of the risk of adventurous children poking their fingers into it 2 Likes |

odimbannamdi:Ceiling fan works very well with POP. You just have to plan it from the very beginning of the project. It is the build as you go method we adopt in Nigeria that makes it looks like ceiling fan is impossible with POP. There are ceiling fan hooks in the market and from your welder. If you are building a storey building with decking, ask your iron bender to include a ceiling fan hook and hooks (anchors) for POP installation during decking stage. During painting and decorating stage, the POP is then installed around the ceiling fan hook and using the anchors to secure the POP to the ceiling to prevent collapse. You can then hang a fan when ready without issues. If it is a bungalow or upper floor, during nogging of the roof woodwork, ask your carpenter to screw/secure the ceiling fan hook to the rafter (wood ) at the appropriate point for the fan. During painting and decorating stage, the POP is installed around the ceiling fan hook. You can hang your fan without issues. 3 Likes

odimbannamdi:No sir, there will be no water going back into the soil because the area is casted. With proper landscaping and leveling, all water will be properly channeled outside and directed to the drainage system beyond the compound. |

One thing many overlook during construction is fire prevention planning — not just installing extinguishers later. Things like proper electrical conduit placement, alarm systems,exit routes, gas cylinder distance from cooking areas, and safe wiring junctions go a long way in avoiding serious incidents. I’ve seen finished buildings go up in flames within months simply because no one guided them on fire safety during construction. Nigeria is catching up slowly with preventive safety culture — but property owners can lead the change. 1 Like |
