Funny enough this was more like a Yoruba coup going by the names up there, but it wasn't termed that way. So why was the other dubbed an Igbo coup ? Just mulling over
I don’t think there was any genuine evidence that they were planning coup..

It captures a time when power was absolute, dissent was fatal, and fear ruled the state.

If this coup had succeeded they would have still called it Igbo coup.

Till date the still refer to Kaduna Nzogwu led coup as Igbo coup. But this one that is mainly them they will not promote it to last. Then to distract you they way say it didnt succeed.
The Jan 1963 coup was an Ibo coup where Ibos killed others but spared thee own leaders.

The comments here…man! Nigeria is so so disunited it’s so sad. Hate him or love him, Lt Gen Diya was a General in the Nigerian army. That deserves some respect at the least

Those who wanted to kill him were buried before him.
That is what will happen to all those who want you dead in 2026.
They will all die in your place.

Why killing someone for plotting a coup while yourself is a coup plotter

Chai! The death of General Sanni Abacha really saved Diya, Adisa, Olarenwaju and others. There was even plans to eliminate them despite Abacha's sudden death but God saved them.

Meanwhile the death of Sanni Abacha was well celebrated o. Even in the barracks soldiers were jubilating and gyrating.
Didn't the military have a good welfare package then?

The regimes of Babangida and Abacha especially Babangida's regime are the worst things that ever happened to Nigeria.

We are yet to overcome the consequences of passing through the two regimes even after almost three decades.

It's not an Igbo coup. Igbo people did not do any town hall meeting to agree on a coup. It's a few military boys coup. They don't represent the value of their ethnicity.
A very reasonable reply to that tribalist

That day that Abacha died, the whole of mile 2 to Maryland under bridge was filled with jubilations by crowds of people.
It was like a heavy veil was lifted from the country.
Soldiers parading through the streets was a common thing in Lagos then, and you dare not be seen in the street or even outside your compound at that moment. They will just leave you with one or two bullets and continue, no questions asked.

Nah 1998 be this..

Igbo coup nah in the 1960s..
It's not about the year but the eternal victimisation of Igbo people that has reached a crescendo under Oshiomole's Assembly of Past Criminals, APC leaders looters.

When Funke Olakurin, daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti was murdered instead of Bola Tinubu to make sure that the perpetrators were brought to book, he ended up making fun of the death of the young lady by turning everything into tribalism by showing his hates for Igbos.

Tinubu has never spoken against the deadly activities of Fulani herdsmen across the country

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.

Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.

Likewise Baba Obj,,Gen Abacha death led to endof many senior military officers.Personally I think Abacha military administration is underscored,,its one of the better administration compared to the sets of looters marauding as people's people
And one of the most safe and secure periods in Nigeria's history.
