I hate AFCON when you are up against a host nation. If we beat Algeria, it will be very difficult for us to beat this Moroccan team with the home support and favourable officiating they enjoy.
It’s not even only about playing the host. Whenever North African teams are hosting and you are up against them, your own don finish patapata. These mofos sabi dark evil arts.

Remember tunisia 2004 before kickoff during the anthem lineup against Tunisia, Liberia’s national anthem was deliberately played instead of Nigeria’s. I remember our players screaming that it’s not our anthem. lol. Dem nor send. Dem just play Liberia anthem for us till the end. 😂

I keep saying it, enyimba deserve the highest honors in African football for surviving encounters with ismaily and etoile du Sahel.

Those days when the Abia state Governor bin dey follow sidon for bench to motivate the players cheesy.

That 2nd leg of the final vs Ismaily in Egypt na die - Ekene Ezenwa the lone striker was literally defending from the opponent's box..lol

From an administrative and management perspective, Eyinmba was head and shoulders above all other Nigerian clubs that year.

They even wanted to buy one Malian Striker - Draman Traore for $2m cheesy

Gyokeres came to the Premier League as a kid, flopped,

vanished, locked in,

went on a mad training arc, dropped 125 G/A in 102 games…

then came back 7 years later and flopped again😭

Forget Maduka

Oliseh echoed my sentiment that a Goalkeeper leaving his club to play AFCON must be guaranteed shirt because if his replacement at club level does well while he's at AFCON, he will be on bench for a long time and will affect his career. I've read interviews from our keepers in the 90s that said anytime they come for AFCON, their club career goes down. Maduka is not ready to make that sacrifice. He was happy with the limelight Super Eagles gave him when he was 2nd choice at Watford. Now he is starting goalie at Udinese, he is not ready to make that sacrifice. Ontop of that like Oliseh said, you have to promise him the shirt. You can't ask Udinese goalie to leave his club side then bench him in AFCON like they did in the last qualifiers. That's a lose-lose for him

So it would be Okonkwo Vs Nwabali

That guy was the top scorer in that season's champions league. Those were the days when Enyimba was serious, and NTA would keep showing the games back to back!!!

Enyimba was a force back then nah. It used to be just 2 groups after about 2 or 3 qualifying rounds.

Ismaily knack Enyimba 6-1 for Egypt in the group stages...I remember it rained heavily, and NEPA no gree give us light to watch the game that night. I couldn't believe my ears when I later heard the result the next morning. but Enyimba sef knack then 4-2 for Aba in the 2nd leg some weeks later

Won the first leg of the final against ismaily again 2-0 and put up a masterclass in defending in that 2nd leg in Cairo abi na Ismailia (lost 1-0) that dem Chelsea 2012 class would be proud of grin grin

I tell you bro!

These set of players wey you list now na the best set of Enyimba FC. EVER.

David Tykvase. What a player in Lobi Stars then.. I watched him torment Enyimba defence in the FA Cup final played here in PH, I think 2005. I was in Aba then, but I travelled down to PH to watch that match. This guy worry Enyimba that day. And he scored the equaliser. The game ended 1-1. Enyimba won in PK shootout.

After that match Orji Uzor Kalu go buy am sharp sharp grin grin... I think he broke transfer record in NPFL then.

In Nigeria, if govt is not fully sponsoring football we cannot excel, cos its usually too expensive for individuals to carry.

Orji Kalu was the best thing that happened to Nigerian local football of that time. I even saw his presidential campaign poster in Bauchi tagging him the Jinx breaker

He went all in with Enyimba. He didnt spare any expnse brought guys from outside Nigeria, signed them for top fees. Muri Ogunbiyi, Enyeama, Romanus Orjinta, Obinna Nwaneri Seyi Ogunsanya, Ezenwa, Ajibade Omolade. Band for band with those North Africans

There was a governor in Oyo around 95. Ahmed Usman who went all in for Shooting stars too and got them into the CAF champions league final which they lost on penalties to Zamalek

Spot on!

The guy took Enyimba matter personally.

In the second CAF triumph, he promised the players lands and cars. By semi final fixture, the cars are already lined up in the stadium. You can clearly see the cars parked. Tear rubber.

The kind jinja the players gather. Lol.
