Na our way. The people are as wicked as the government. Where else did our leaders come from?
Re: Businesses, Traders Hike Prices Over New Tax Laws by Nigerianlion(m): 6:46am On Jan 10
Honestly, some traders are just using this new tax talk as an excuse to increase prices. Even before now, prices were already going up, so this just gives them another reason to charge more. Government should make things clearer and also monitor the markets, because it’s the everyday people that always end up paying for everything.
Re: Businesses, Traders Hike Prices Over New Tax Laws by Lovenorth: 6:46am On Jan 10
What do you expect? I laugh at some useless politicians that said the tax law wouldn't end up exclusively affecting the poor. And to be candit they have solid ground for increasing the price. Even Tinubu himself was aware of the consequences

It’s true o. Even on non-taxable items. Embassy food restaurant in Osogbo has increased its eba from N200 per scoop to N300. Its beef, which was being sold at N300 a few days ago, is now being sold at N500 each. I am sure it could have increased cost of its table water. And these do not attract VAT o.

One mistake most of Nigerian traders will make is that: they won’t want to or may not know how to configure or reconfigure their retail POS terminals (not POS from banks o) to identify only taxable items and compute, separately, taxes like VAT, service charge, consumption tax etc on them.

For instance, in a food restaurant, a cold beer may be ordered, alongside a take-away pack, when buying food which may attract VAT. There will be need to separate those ones from the real meal bought, which do not attract VAT. Instead, food restaurants calculate a ‘general’ VAT on all items that appear on the sales printout. Some do not display any VAT on the printout but you will notice that all the prices have increased.
So shops need to edit their inventory master data, in their retail (vending) POS software running on their systems, to reflect this changes in tax policies. A lot of them has never configured VAT in it before.

I feel our National Orientation Agency has done a very poor job about sensitizing people on this new tax laws passed. There’s still time to correct that though. They need to take the orientation and the awareness to our grassroots. That where most people are misinformed. I admit; there are gree dy ones among our informed and educated business men and women also.

More so, this is the time shops and businesses need tax advisers, more than before, to guide them on this new tax policies. I am aware that tax firms have started recruiting more hands but it’s not going to be enough.

It is good our governments open more (temporary or permanent) area tax offices, at least, where people can go and ask questions.

In 2027, making 2026 tax returns and fillings will come with its challenges but it is good governments go out and sensitize people early , in order to minimize these filing and tax returns challenges.

Government so also try to go after all fals,e or alarmists who spread unfounded tax narratives online and be bringing down their posts. There are a lot of it out there, including those sone with AI.

This traders forget that as they increase the prices of their products, it means more tax for them, mathematically.

The tax applies to everything, remember the money you withdraw must be taxed and you are a business man so what do you expect?

This one is true also and I know it. For example, we didn't see any difference in the prices of commodities following the recent slash in the price of PMS. But just add N1 to the price and boom! Everything goes up. I remember sometime in 2014 or so, when small buses were banned from entering the FCT. On the very first day of the ban, small taxis and private vehicle owners who were exempted from the ban immediately increased their fares by a sharp margin. There was no increase in fuel price; the only reason was because they knew the crowd had no option and that the luxury buses provided were not enough to cushion the effect of the ban. Nigerians are just plain wicked to each other yet blame "our leaders" as if our leaders are not a reflection of ourselves. Are our leaders from Mars or Spain?

You cannot give what you don't have. Tinubu has nothing in his head, apart from taking from the people. This is the model he has used over the years in Lagos.

Now, Nigerians will understand that whenever a government goes boasting about a big IGR, someone is paying the heavy price.
Nobody has hiked prices.

The fake news was fabricated by those our blothers from Hell fire. They don't wish Nigeria well.

Dem go tire!

The tax does not apply to everything, my brother.
Only ‘VATABLE’ items on that list have to be configured to attract VAT. Other non-VATABLE items have to be TAX-EXEMPT.

The restaurant owner will make VAT returns, based on monthly or yearly VAT threshold, as specified by the new tax law. Accountants and tax practitioners know more about this threshold.

It is only the restaurant owner’s profit that will be subjected to tax, at the end of the year.

This is why I keep saying that we are our problem. Those not even affected by the Tax are now the one causing havoc on mostly those exempted from paying tax. Most Nigerians don't read, comprehend and are highly gullible. Smh
does tax not start from 800k +1 yearly.so people earning 70k is much well in the bracket

Bunch of illiterates and wicked business owners/traders!
Have they not been paying tax before now?
This tax reforms is meant to reduce burden and increase their profits o!
The government too didn't communicate the gains and benefits inherent contained therein!
Nigeria has the most docile consumers in the world, I haven't seen them boycotting a product or service for once, that's why DSTV, MTN, Beverages firm and common sachet water producers could just wake up to increase prices in a fiat and life goes on!

Tinubu has been a disaster for ordinary Nigerians
He increased government revenue by removing subsidies and hiking taxes which are all reason prices of goods and services went up
A store sales gir that was being paid 20 to 50k during Goodluck is still within the same salary range
Graduate salaries were 150k to 300k and they are still the same yet their purchasing power is reduced by almost a 10th
While state and federal governments have increased allocations the stealing has never been this bad. The comparable government that was this bad and this corrupt was that of Buhari

It’s been a sack full of shame
I hope he and his fellow looters reap whatever they are doing against the people right now
When hunger is increased in the land unrighteousness increases

It’s part of the reason kidnapping, prostitution (call it hooks or whatever), stealing, adulterated goods and wickedness has increased. Of course you’ll answer to God will people are perishing because of your actions

That is why we kick against this tax policy, why do you tax people already suffering from your bad policies,if tax is to be increased it should be small percentage increments, now M.A.N & SMEs is going to transfer the fee back to the final consumers which are majorly the poor.

Apart from taxation what has Tinubu done for Nigerians?
Re: Businesses, Traders Hike Prices Over New Tax Laws by ogascomax: 7:17am On Jan 10
It's become a serious issue most especially power. The way BEDC increased their charges is really outrageous. Like they were giving you 200k bill all of a sudden you are receiving 6-700k bill.
In months to come we will understand the implications better.
Re: Businesses, Traders Hike Prices Over New Tax Laws by Imindmybusiness: 7:21am On Jan 10
If you tax the rich, they will shift it to the poor. In the end, only the poor will pay the tax. The key thing is to empower the poor to stop being at the mercy of the rich and they will be throwing the taxes at each other. If a roadside mechanic has an enabling environment to grow his small scale business, after he helps the rich to pay his taxes when he buys goods from him, the rich will help him to pay his own taxes by the time the rich brings his car for repair. This is simple economics and Tinubu knows this but does not care about the poor enough to implement it.

Tinubu has a plan...

That is, to make many Nigerians so poor that by 2027 they can sell their votes for even N500
We saw how your people were fighting for Gala and Malt @Anambra election 😂

During Obi era as governor. Poverty rate increases from 41% to 50+%.

We saw how people were protesting for imposing heavy tax on his people 😂

Hypocrity!

I had an argument with a friend over this new tax law weeks ago, where he said there will be protest if BAT and his cohorts don't rescind their decision on the law..

The truth is, the APCHEAT government has weakened Nigerians to the point where they don't even have strength to protest on anything anymore, no matter how bad..

If Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso etc do not come out and support any protest they are not ready yet. Let FG call the protest political it's not anybody's business. That is where this present politicians are failing. If it was Tinubu he will protest and if you like call it anything it's not his business.

2027, BAT and his cohorts will carefully rig the election and nothing, absolutely nothing will happen...

I know but the issue here is that when you go to withdraw above the limit they set, the VAT would be applied irrespective of the reasons you are withdrawing the money and you are doing it for profit. So what do you do? I also note that most Nigerians are wickeds but who gave them the opportunity?
Re: Businesses, Traders Hike Prices Over New Tax Laws by Ishilove: 7:27am On Jan 10
Nigerians and greed. The more money you make, the more tax you pay, but of course their greed will not allow them to factor this in. We are simply a reflection of our corrupt leaders.

I thought they say tax will not affect the poor.

141million people would become poor in this country u guys think is a joke.

The tax burden of the entire world has never been borne by the rich,it is always the poor that would suffer it.

As long as the poor will always support bad govt, this is what awaits them all.

I rented my brothers house yesterday, self contain for #1,000,000.

1bedroom for #1.7million before tax. We built the house,no govt effort from the start to finish and u come up with tax, then we increase the rent to pay u the tax no wahala. We bought our transformer, drill borehole and name it.

Who will suffer, the very poor who feels the govt is right.
Which tax you pay for rent?
