Was he a boxer or UFC fighter? It's usually due to pressure occasioned by blows to the ear. |

Kelzlez:Oga go to the hospital let them do a test, run a scan and properly diagnose. Nairaland is not a hospital pls. |
| Re: Please Help. What's This On My Grand Father's Ear by greatseed: 4:02pm On Jan 10 |
Kelzlez:Why don't you just take him to a good hospital you can afford, there a lot of sicknesses & diseases that come with old age. |
| Re: Please Help. What's This On My Grand Father's Ear by Kobojunkie: 4:03pm On Jan 10 |
Switruth:A pharmacist is not a doctor. Always see a doctor and maybe get a second opinion if still in doubt . 🤔 |

This is swollen pinna majorly caused by infection. It can be drained if it's soft and have fluid but antibiotics will take care of it. It should be treated fast before it gets worse. |

Kobojunkie:The way he is sounding,it seems he can barely afford hospital... Believe me some pharmacists in your street knows things about health..... Let him try that a bit. |
| Re: Please Help. What's This On My Grand Father's Ear by pook(m): 4:07pm On Jan 10 |
Kobojunkie:He needs to go to a private hospital first for proper diagnosis. Trust me if he goes to General Hospital, they will keep diagnosing wrong thing for his granddad till he gets hospitalize then death. Nigerian General hospital will use aged people for practice. My advise is to get help online first so he can name the disease as he is doing then visit a private hospital to see if they get a match to what he thinks. He can then go to a General or Federal Hospital to ask for a test too then ascertained the illness match for proper treatment. Many people have lost their aged folks to the system. |

Switruth:I suspected that much. 🤔 I too know things about health but that can never or should never take precedence over directions from a certified physician. 🥱🥱 |

Houseofglam7:The post itself is more nauseating. How do people come to a faceless forum for solution to health problems? Like there no hospitals any more? |
| Re: Please Help. What's This On My Grand Father's Ear by pook(m): 4:09pm On Jan 10 |
piriton:Definitely, he needs a test to use the antibiotics that will work. |

Kelzlez:You don't need to know anything. Some people spend years studying medicine for a reason. Take your relative to see professionals who are trained to help. |

You are new on nairaland, just a day old here, and your thread is already making front page. I have been a nairaland member for 15 years now and not a day that mods have pushed my thread to front page even when i begged and cried to Nairalandpolicewoman, Helinues and Yuzedo none of them have ever helped my thread to reach front page. 😔🥺 $ |

If antibiotics are not sold without prescription, nobody can have access to them. But as long as it's in the open market people especially non professionals will still handle it and sell it to make money. |

So, in lieu of OP seeking a qualified medical opinion, I asked AI. Here's what came back: Based on the provided images, which appear to show multiple close-up views of the same outer ear (pinna), I can observe the following details: the ear belongs to an individual with dark brown skin and white, curly hair, suggesting an older adult. The upper portion, specifically the helix (the curved rim), is prominently swollen and bulbous, with a smooth, shiny surface that looks stretched over what may be fluid accumulation. There's no visible discoloration like bruising or intense redness, no open wounds, ulcers, crusting, or pus. The swelling appears localized and non-inflammatory, without affecting the earlobe or the rest of the pinna significantly. Flaky white material near the base in one view could be dry skin or hair-related, but it's not central to the swelling. This presentation doesn't strongly match more acute or inflammatory conditions like perichondritis (which typically involves redness, pain, and infection often from trauma or piercing) relapsing polychondritis (an autoimmune disorder causing recurrent cartilage inflammation, often with redness and potential involvement of both ears or other body parts) auricular hematoma (fluid or blood collection from direct trauma, potentially leading to cauliflower ear if untreated, and often with bruising) gouty tophi (nodular deposits of urate crystals, usually white or yellowish and bumpy), or chondrodermatitis nodularis helicis (a small, painful nodule from pressure, often with a central crust). Instead, the smooth, localized, cyst-like swelling without obvious signs of infection or trauma closely resembles an auricular pseudocyst (also called pseudocyst of the auricle or endochondral pseudocyst). This is a rare, benign condition where fluid accumulates within the cartilage layers of the ear, forming a painless or minimally tender cystic swelling, typically 1-5 cm in size. It often develops gradually over weeks and is more common in men, particularly middle-aged or older adults. Possible Causes Often idiopathic (no clear cause), but can result from minor repeated trauma, such as pressure from sleeping on one side, headphones, masks, or even friction in people with movement disorders. Not typically linked to infection or autoimmune issues. Symptoms Asymptomatic swelling that's fluctuant (feels like it contains fluid). Usually no pain, redness, or fever unless secondarily infected. Can persist or grow if untreated but doesn't spread. Next Steps This is not a formal medical diagnosis—I'm basing this on visual analysis and common conditions, but ear swellings can have overlapping appearances, and some (like infections or autoimmune issues) require prompt attention to avoid complications like cartilage damage. I strongly recommend consulting an ENT specialist (otolaryngologist) or dermatologist for examination, possible fluid aspiration, imaging, or biopsy to confirm and rule out other causes. Treatment options, if needed, include draining the fluid, applying compression (e.g., with a bolster), or steroids, and it's often straightforward with low recurrence if addressed early. If you have symptoms like pain, fever, or recent trauma, seek care sooner. For visual comparison, here's an example image of an auricular pseudocyst:

Kelzlez:Please take Baba to the hospital! What you’re doing is not helping him in any way. He is obviously in pain and needs to see a medical doctor urgently. No advice here is sufficient—take him to the hospital, man! |
