this is so shameful of you to say.. how corrupt minded are you,, let’s not talk about other products that are hazardous to human and endangers Nigerians life in the name of this productions you’re talking about.. now you mentioned china fakes.. let’s agree it’s fake people buy them knowing what they’re buying.. not someone producing a product they’re not producing to give a name but rather use another brands name.. if I want to buy thesame tv knowing I can’t afford lg I’ll go for it.. not that I’ll be buying a different product in the name of lg.. that’s criminality .. that’s Dubois.. and heartless ..
I really don't think you read my post to understand it, rather you are fixated on what is in your head. Let me help you out it seems comprehension is a bit of a problem for you .

1. I said because of inferior products which are less costly, poor masses can now have access to it.
2. As long as there is huge income gap, sellers will keep exploiting the situation to important fake products and there will always be market for it - by the poor
3. That in society where people earn living wage and consumer rights are enforced by the government, the masses are less likely to patronize fake products - hence, the dearth of fake goods in such society.

Now, can you tell me what is it in my original post that warrant you insulting your dad thinking that you are insulting me?

Yeah. You can import fake TVs from China, but don't try to pass it off as a brand name and sell them close to original price. That is fraud.
Did I say that it isn't a fraud? Please show anywhere in my post where I said it wasn't a crime?

They can use their own name instead of using another brand name.
Isn't it obvious that is the reason it is considered a crime?

Very soon, these same counterfeiters, caught with their trousers around their ankles in Alaba Market, will solemnly blame the government for the ripple effects of their own criminal brilliance.

One can already predict the next scene, original equipment manufacturers quietly activating sophisticated countermeasures to protect unsuspecting consumers from these backyard industrialists.

This, of course, is not a new talent. It is the same magic trick they perform with fake drugs, adulterating medicines and criminally extending shelf lives, transforming healing products into health hazards for Nigerians.

We have now reached the absurd stage where reputable hospitals must specify which pharmacy patients should patronise if they want actual drugs, not experimental poisons.

These people, oh gosh!
Oga, goan hussle..

I submit to you that your thought process on this matter is seriously flawed!!!

You sound educated but your opinion on this is rather ill-informed sir!

1. The consequences of these fake products - from household electronics, to pharmaceuticals and foods&drinks - far outweigh whatever advantage of economic bridging that you are positing

2. Assuming, without conceding, that you must make these cheaper alternatives for the low-income class, why not own it with your full chest and give it your own name and brand? Why impersonate other brands? We both know the answer to that 🤷‍♂️

There’s no defence for this for this kind of criminality, sire!
I never said the advantage outweighed the disadvantage, please do show me in my post where I said so?

You are asking people commiting crimes why they are impersonating genuine products? Isn't that the definition of fake? grin

Could also explain to me how giving an explanation for the reason things happen translated into defending it?

If you had taken your time to read through and gave it a second thought, you would have understood the following: that I stated why fake products are rampant in our society and why it will take time to eradicate - by stating how societal pressure (to belong) and income disparities are being exploited by seller. I also pointed out why it is very minimal almost non-existent in society with very narrow income gap and strong government controls.

NB: I think you should understand that explaining the mechanism underlining an event is not the same as supporting it. For you to be able to solve any societal problem, you need to understand how such problem or behavior came into being and the mechanism that gives it life. If you don't understand this you will only be treating the symptoms instead of the problem itself.

Why are the rich "oppressing" the poor? grin

If not for the "fake products from China" many people would never be able to afford a flat screen Tv - How many families in Nigerian are buoyant enough to cough out 500 to 800 euros for a quality LG TV?

How many have the resources to even buy original quality phones or other gadgets?

I am not saying that "fake product" should be allowed into the country but as long as there is huge disparity in terms of income and as long as the rich continue "taunting" the poor with their riches the poor will always look for alternative product so as not to feel left out.

In most society, where the income gap is not that wide and where people earn living wage, the chances of opting for fake goods is very low. In fact, most people won't waste their money on such given that they can afford real and quality products and that the system protect them as customers in terms of failure of the product.

Anyways, as long as poverty is supreme in Nigeria and as long as the poor wants to live like the rich, opportunist will exploit the situation and will continue selling fake and dangerous products.
Your analysis didn't hold water

When Milo was beyond the reach of the poor, cowbellchoco et al were the go to for the poor with introduction of sachet beverage....this later forced Milo to introduce sachet as well

Cowbell came n established their name, they didn"t impersonate Milo

I guess you know that the mechanism that drives the rise of fake products for one commodity might not be the same exact mechanism for other commodities and a times there is overlap?

As far as I understand Nigeria, the influx of fake products are being driven by mostly lack of proper government control and protection of consumer's right, and poverty.

Oga do you know there was a lot of those fake products in Nigeria market. Most of the beverages you buy in Nigeria can't pass food safety regulations in Europe. Dey there they whine yourself grin

Laugh wan burst my belle.
They know the TV are in circulation what's the pretense all about.
The fake TV are always cheaper than than the original.
Really I fell a victim of this 2yrs ago.
I bought an 55"LG SMART TV for 350k
Mean while the original one is sold for 800k there about as at then o.
But the alaba people are very cunny, they will deceive you and tame you with dealership stories to convince you that you are buying and original LG.
Some how you will fall for it.
I was a victim Sha and he really painted me Cos the guy gave me his word only to find out I bought unbranded tv published in the name of LG.
I eventual sold it and got an original Hisense for 700k.

Same europe that banned iru n dry fish. All their food safety regulations are politically motivated to encourage their citizens to patronize home products.

The issue at hand is impersonation

They're quick to compare their criminality to China, forgetting that China manufacture their products based on specifications. What you asked for is what they manufacture for you. Most of these products meets the national standards set up by the standardization agency in China but might not necessarily meet up with Nigeria's standardization which makes it substandard and cheaper. But you people are manufacturing POISONS that meets No standard specifications. None!
You are not smart at all. even that LG TV in the video circulating online was manafactured in China but they can't label it LG in China so as not to be directed.
China is the one doing most of the piracy for African countries.

Whether it is driven by purely scientific reasons or protectionism the fact is that they had better government control than we do.

Actually, impersonation in this situation bothers on safety as well. I am sure LG products meet some safety standards. We are not sure that whatever they are trying to pass off as LG meet the required standards, as long as that is not ascertained safety is still of paramount concern here.

No worry yourself, LG is a big brand with financial power, they will deal with them.

These same callous people rendered many movie producers, movie and music artistes poor and homeless by pirating their hard work. Some of them died without recovering from it. After months of hard work, you go around all TV stations for media tour to market and promote your movie or album. While you're at it, you would see the pirated CDs hanging on the shelves everywhere by the roadside and these wicked people already selling the pirated copies and making money while you you're left to struggle to payback the loans you borrowed for the production.

It was the arrival of digital platforms like YouTube, Netflix & co that rescued the career of Nigerian artistes from being wrecked by these people.

And these people are the biggest critics of Government, they keep shouting and pretending they love Nigeria more than others, saying a new Nigeria is POOsible. Meanwhile they are more evil than the devil himself.

Imagine these ones in power, they will use federal power to protect their Mafia businesses. And if a whistleblower raises an alarm, they will use DSS to lock him/her in underground cell and finish him there. Nigeria indeed dodged a bullet.
Spot on! Just imagine them in power.

Reason why we voted based on our high moral standards in 2023 and selected the most upright candidate with no case of corruption, no stain on his records, impeccable academic records and a track record for excellence!

We certainly dodged a bullet...but did we end up in front of an RPG? Only time will tell

Don't support illegality. Why don't they make these same tvs and sell as a completely different name without using the brand name of established company. Using Lgs Samsung or other big brands logo is criminal and deceptive to the buyer.

You know I have dad but you started your first response with an insult, you could have made your point then without insult. Now back to your point.

I think you already have a fixed mindset and I shall try to reason you out of it. Yes if not for the influx of those substandard cheap goods most Nigerians giving their income level won't be able to afford it. That doesn't mean I support it, if you go down my post you would see where I mentioned that due to poor government control, the need to feel among, and wide income gap, are being exploited by the producer and seller of fake goods. I am sure you understand the role of "exploitation" in my statement. Does that in anyway indicate that I support the sale of fake products? I guess you didn't also read far to see where I said I am not supporting the importation of fake products?

Secondly, once you knowingly put the wrong label on any product. In an effort to deceive the buyer into thinking they are buying the goods the label owner is known for, the product becomes the fake of what you are trying to pass it off, irrespective of the quality.

So China can call it anything they want or price it at any amount that doesn't matter, if you "like carry Iphone cover and logo put ontop techno na still fake iphone. If you like carry techno logo and cover put ontop iPhone and pass it off as techno na still fake techno e be" grin

There are minimum international standards for products with respect to users safety, environmental impact and it is the moral responsibility of every nation to uphold that. Anyways that is an entirely different conversation. Happy Sunday.
