Katsina State Government Plans Release of 70 Repentant Terrorists Under Peace Deal

The Katsina State Government has concluded plans to release 70 individuals described as “repentant terrorists” as part of an ongoing peace and reconciliation initiative aimed at addressing insecurity in the state.

The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Nasir Muazu, who explained that the decision is tied to peace agreements reached between affected communities and armed groups operating across several local government areas of Katsina State.

According to the commissioner, the move is intended to consolidate existing peace deals and encourage an end to violent activities in communities that have suffered prolonged attacks linked to terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

The planned release, however, has generated widespread reactions and concerns, given Katsina State’s long-standing battle with terrorism and other forms of violent crime. Critics argue that reintegrating former fighters into society without transparent accountability mechanisms could pose risks to public safety, especially for communities that have lost loved ones to attacks.

Supporters of the initiative, on the other hand, maintain that dialogue and rehabilitation remain key components of resolving prolonged conflicts, insisting that the programme is designed to reduce violence and promote lasting peace.

As discussions continue, many Nigerians are calling for clarity on the terms of the peace deal, the rehabilitation process for the repentant individuals, and the safeguards in place to protect civilians should the release proceed as planned.

When APC brags about non-kinetic approach alias peace deals in Katsina and Kaduna, this is what they are referring to. There's a direct correlation between these so-called peace deals and the rising insecurity in Kano and Kwara states. The bandits are not repenting, they are simply migrating to new grounds.

When one considers the fact that it is the islamic sharia states that are zealous about this demonic repentance from terrorism and the proapect of the terrorists being paid, you realize the Islamists are holding Nigeria to ransom.

People are in prison for lesser crimes like petty theft, fraud and other felonies. They don't get released. But individuals who join terrorist organisations, take up guns and kill people until they get arrested and locked up are termed repentant terrorists.
Of course they are in prison and don't have access to weapons or their former network. Why won't they appear repentant? Now the government will release these killers and they'll return to their former ways.

It isn't enough that the Nigerian army even went as far as absorbing some of these terrorists into its ranks. And they act surprised whenever intel gets leaked.

Are you indirectly saying that's the legacy of Tinubu's muslim-muslim ticket?
