Kanu cannot play in a 4-3-3 formation as a winger; he is best suited as an RCF, maybe as an out and out CF but not ST. Yekini and Osihmen can play together in a 4-4-2 not in 4-3-3. What happened to having wingers like Amuneke, Siasia, Tijani, Finidi and Obafemi Martins?

In the midfield, playing Mikel as a single pivot cannot work in either 4-3-3 or 4-4-2; it's best to play Mikel and Oliseh as a double pivot in 4-3-3 or 4-5-1. Okocha, yes can always be in the AM position. Daniel Amokachi, Mutiu Adepoju, Ndidi, Okocha Snr are honourablke mentions.

In the defence, where is Uche Okechukwu? Keshi and Okechukwu as CBs would work. Babayaro and Taiwo as RB and LB respectively. Not forgetting Yobo, Uche Okafor, Ben Iroha.

Victor Enyema is undisputable!
Both Babayaro and Taiwo never played as a RB in their entire career because both were one legged players and was rooted to the LB position all their career.

Even Yekini wasn't that good... He missed many clear chances that wld have given us trophies....
Osimhen is clearly above him in finishing
It was the suppliers like oliseh & okocha that made him great
Osimhen is nothing close to Yekini as far as goal scoring is concerned, Haaland also top the list of big chances missed in the Premier League every season, that's to say strikers miss chances to score goals.

Osimhen also misses loads of chances that's why he has just one 20 plus league goal season in Europe top five leagues despite playing for Wolfsburg, Lille and Napoli.

It should be 4 4 2...yekini can't play from the flank ..so play kanu as a fourth midfielder, mikel and oliseh at the base...kanu and okocha offensive...osihmen partners yekini. ...

Troost-Ekong nko?

No Aghahowa?

No Obafemi Martins?

No Emmanuel Emenike?

No Pius Ikedia?

Hmmmmm
There are hundreds of players not there, not just the ones you listed. You obviously missed his point, that's his own best eleven.
You can draft yours let's see.
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by IMPARTIAL: 1:54pm On Jan 12
What kind of lineup is this? Do you know football at all? How can Okocha and Mikel be in the same first 11? Maybe Mikel would play the position he played for Chelsea. How can Osimhen and Yekini be in the same first 11?

What is Yobo doing there?

I go for Ben Irhoha for let wing back (No 3). That's the only addition.
Ben Iroha to replace Taye Taiwo and Uche Okechukwu to replace Stephen Keshi…

I’d also replace Kanu with Victor Ikpeba…Kanu is a god in super eagles but he can be a bit slow.
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by IMPARTIAL: 2:00pm On Jan 12
Yekini and Osimhen cannot be on the same team. One has to drop. Yobo does not merit that position. Babayaro is better than Taiwo.

Where is Odegbami? Where is Adokie? Where is Amunike? Where is Finidi? Where is Owo Blow? Where is 10-10? Where is Eboigbe?
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by Prince16: 2:00pm On Jan 12
Odemwingie ke?
For 1st, 2nd or 3rd team??

The 1st team wey mathetical segun odegbami , finidi george and tijani babangida never enter??
Hian!
RealityKings1:
Where are those twins that used to play for Nigeria
Where is Odemwingwe
The person that composed that list obviously na Gen z, if not e for know say felix Owolabi/bright omokaro (aka 10-10) nor be Taye taiwo mate.

Mikel and Kanú are similar players.
I would've preferred Emmanuel Amunike for that left hand side!
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by sirchim(m): 2:03pm On Jan 12
They didn't watch YEKINI, that's why.
SEGLIZ:
this can never and would never be. the current crops of players can't match up the older generations.

after the 94 set, Atlanta 96 Nigeria was done for in football, I keep saying it, watching those generations play while they are losing you still would enjoy watching them.

there are players the current (genzee) don't know about eg Segun Odegbami, Christian Chukwu, Patrick Okala, Samuel Okparaji etc.

"those who forget their past and history lose their identity". prepare yourself not to grow old.

wón ń se àdúrà fún omodé pé áá dàgbà áá dògbó, órí irun funfun lórí ara è óó ń tuú dànù. when find grey hair on you pull them off young man.

mind not everyone on this platform is young or old. learn from history, know you past so your cultural life and lifestyle can be rich. some of this I mentioned I never saw play do.

we all queue here, back in the day.

leaving Yekini to the wings baffles me just to create space for Osimehn.

Na so..

The formation too solid..

If not for that Yakubu's legendary miss during the world cup that won the world cup of all misses itself,he would have at least made the list too angry.
I believe iroha is more solid on the left back
Then rufihi or okala will be best in the post

I watched both. Even Aloy Agu was better than him.

Kanu might be adjudged as Nigeria best but come to super eagles he should be on the bench, even Samson Siasia was better than him talking super eagles.

My X1... 1.Vincent Enyeama
2.Ola Aina
3.Taye Taiwo
4.Stephen Keshi
5.Christian Chuckwu
6.Sunday Oliseh
7.Segun Odegbami
8.Daniel Amokachie
9.Victor Osimhen-----Yekini,very dicey
10.Austin Okocha
11.Adokiye Aimeasemeka
And Ola Aina's injury did not allow him to go to AFCON. Either ways, the Eagles are flying well at this AFCON.

Segun Odegbami aka The Mathematical Man.

The only player that uses mathematics to destroy football opponents grin grin grin grin grin grin
In those days, Nigerian players were very exciting to watch. It was all about the skills, the dribbles. Our football copied the Brazilian style and people were always talking about jogobonito samba. Football was like music, until European football brought in the money and European kick and follow ball, as it was then called. The likes of Arsene Wenger and Guardiola tried to bring that football beauty back, but the likes of Mourinho wanted the kick, follow and win matches.

Do not forget that Messi once was touted to play football as if he was on the streets. The streets then was where you could find the best of skills and players. That’s why Messi is called the greatest today.

Nigerian football with the likes of Odegbami made citizens sleep in front of the national stadium on Friday nights waiting on very long queues on saturdays to watch. Amesiamaka was simply sweet and exciting. There were too many great players. Tarila Okorowanta, Friday Ekpo, Etim Esin, Taribo West (Papilo), Samson Siasia, Mudashiru Lawal, Owolabi, Aloysius Atuegwu, Christian Madu, etc.

Principal cup played in those days brought out some of the biggest talents, who went straight from secondary school to football teams. There were CMS grammar school, Igbobi, St. Finbarrs, Eko boys High school, Saka Tinubu, St Gregory’s, Trinity secondary school, etc in Lagos. Others were in the present Anambra state, Enugu, Imo state, Abia state and so on.

Abeg make we forget. Nigeria too sweet before until these horrible politicians come take religion and tribalism scatter everywhere.

Taye taiwo, yes!
Yobo, yes!
But Taribo?? Taribo was a beast in his prime! I could remember a game (AC milan vs inter milan), he completely 'enveloped' ronaldo nazario!
Calvin is good no doubt, but he still has to prove himself with more games/titles for both club and country!
