Rashidi Yekini
Emmanuel Amunike
Daniel Amokachi
Sunday Oliseh
Jay Jay Okocha

The above mentioned names cannot be separated. It is neither they play, or they don't play at all.

SEGLIZ:
this can never and would never be. the current crops of players can't match up the older generations.

after the 94 set, Atlanta 96 Nigeria was done for in football, I keep saying it, watching those generations play while they are losing you still would enjoy watching them.

there are players the current (genzee) don't know about eg Segun Odegbami, Christian Chukwu, Patrick Okala, Samuel Okparaji etc.

"those who forget their past and history lose their identity". prepare yourself not to grow old.

wón ń se àdúrà fún omodé pé áá dàgbà áá dògbó, órí irun funfun lórí ara è óó ń tuú dànù. when find grey hair on you pull them off young man.

mind not everyone on this platform is young or old. learn from history, know you past so your cultural life and lifestyle can be rich. some of this I mentioned I never saw play do.

we all queue here, back in the day.

leaving Yekini to the wings baffles me just to create space for Osimehn.
No mind all these small shildren of nawadays. What is Kanu doing in Humphrey Edobor's position?.
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by chaerman: 3:39pm On Jan 12
Replace Mikel with Obafemi Martins, aside from that everywhere good
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by Prince16: 3:40pm On Jan 12
No doubt, iroha was good but he had glass feet/legs and was prone to injury.

Rufai/okala definitely!

bewla:
I believe iroha is more solid on the left back
Then rufihi or okala will be best in the post
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by MatrixCircle: 3:57pm On Jan 12
Enyeama was never better than Peter Rufai and Emmanuel Okala in their prime.
Re: Is This Nigeria Best XI In History? by lekkyy: 4:01pm On Jan 12

In those days, Nigerian players were very exciting to watch. It was all about the skills, the dribbles. Our football copied the Brazilian style and people were always talking about jogobonito samba. Football was like music, until European football brought in the money and European kick and follow ball, as it was then called. The likes of Arsene Wenger and Guardiola tried to bring that football beauty back, but the likes of Mourinho wanted the kick, follow and win matches.

Do not forget that Messi once was touted to play football as if he was on the streets. The streets then was where you could find the best of skills and players. That’s why Messi is called the greatest today.

Nigerian football with the likes of Odegbami made citizens sleep in front of the national stadium on Friday nights waiting on very long queues on saturdays to watch. Amesiamaka was simply sweet and exciting. There were too many great players. Tarila Okorowanta, Friday Ekpo, Etim Esin, Taribo West (Papilo), Samson Siasia, Mudashiru Lawal, Owolabi, Aloysius Atuegwu, Christian Madu, etc.

Principal cup played in those days brought out some of the biggest talents, who went straight from secondary school to football teams. There were CMS grammar school, Igbobi, St. Finbarrs, Eko boys High school, Saka Tinubu, St Gregory’s, Trinity secondary school, etc in Lagos. Others were in the present Anambra state, Enugu, Imo state, Abia state and so on.

Abeg make we forget. Nigeria too sweet before until these horrible politicians come take religion and tribalism scatter everywhere.
As I read the comment, I shook my head in pity. Then, nothing like English football. The Nigerian league had huge clubs with huge fan base. When Stationery Stars would play with Rangers, the countdown to the match is hot and fiery on the radio.

We had the finest and sweetest sports commentators on radio that even if you listen, you could feel the passion, energy and excitement.

To be honest, modern football is dead.

Kanu. I'm obsessed about Kanu, Our lanky striker. For me, he'll make any team. Don't know Yekini and Oliseh too well, we were kind of young then. We watched them later though, not when they were reigning.

In my jocular mood now, please, where's Mr. Garba Lawal? grin

He was only being humble. Take it or leave it. Osihmen will go down as the greatest striker this country ever produced. Unless he retires today
Yekini was more exciting and entertaining to watch in play than Oshimen.

When yekini was on the pitch, he brought this fear to opposing sides that Oshimen as good as he is doesn't.

In my own opinion Yekini is greater than Oshimen on the pitch. Yes Oshimen is one of Nigeria's greats and may surpass Yekini, but for now he's not greater than yekini.

My opinion o.

You said he made us lose tournaments and I asked you which one. You are here saying something else. The only miss I saw him do which was at a major tournament was against Italy at USA 94 and any striker could miss that chance

My brother, my brother, no be small.
Too many strong teams everywhere then.
There was ACB, Racca rovers, Bendel Insurance, IICC shooting stars, Julius Berger, First bank, ITT, Police machine, Nigerdock, Lipton, Concord, Mighty jets of Jos, Iwuanyanwu, Leventis United, etc. Those were the golden years of Nigerian football. If you missed the national stadium, Onikan or the present Teslim Balogun during weekends, you missed a lot. It was crazy. Lagos was peaceful, the whole country peaceful.

Remember Maracana stadium, Ajegunle or marine beach, where stars were made.

You can't say for sure... Osihmen is currently one of the most fears strikers in the world currently.. you can hardly mention three strikers anywhere better than him. Yekini was never in that level bro

How can you claim that yekini wasn't feared like Oshimen?

In his days yekini was one of the best on planet earth. In his prime though.
