undecided you are the one confusing yourself…….they are still referred to as oba because they are all kings in yorubaland….the oba is the local word we use to describe kings in yorubaland regardless of the title…..so I still don’t understand what you are arguing about undecided
Don't teach me who is oba or not.
If Oba Ooni doesn't sound proper then oba akran too don't sound normal.
I live towards Badagry axis and it doesn't sound proper.

grin you are just a clown and your argument is neither here nor there…….the road named after his predecessor in Ikeja is called oba Akran road….so do you know more than the govt officials that put the oba before his title? I will say this the last time…..the word oba is still valid because they are all Kings in yorubaland which in local language, is called oba regardless of the title or how it sound and that doesn’t still take away the fact that they are still all oba so take your confusion elsewhere undecided

Why e go pain me? It's my culture. I respect other people's culture in as much as it has no physical or spiritual repercussions. I grew up prostrating to my father and my elderly ones. So, what's strange in prostrating to a king?
Again, learn to respect other people's culture. If you can't, meddle not in it.

Egun is a sub group of the Yoruba just like the Awori, Egba, ijebus, ijesha etc which all have distinct dialects but all speak and understand one unified Yoruba language which is the Oyo dialects….so yes, it right to call them Yorubas and don’t forget they are also found in Benin republic just as we have indigenous yorubas there too.
Exactly what I was expecting as answer. I know Badagry and their people and language very well. You see that Benin you mentioned, I tend to believe that should be where they're supposed to come from.
And this is my reasoning for saying so.
I'm an Igbo man that grew up in Lagos. I can speak Yoruba fluently. If Awori, Egba, Ijebu and co speak their dialect. I can pick some Yoruba from it. But you see that Egun, lai lai you no go hear anything

Badagry is not owned by yorubas but egun. Particularly, dugbe people

thats not a Yoruba name….badagry people are predominantly Egun people a sub group of the Yoruba tribe and they also have the Aworis who are also indigenous to badagry but not as much in population as the egun people.
Ogun or Gunnu is not a subgroup of Yoruba tribe please...the title is Alohu Akran Not Oba Akran
Re: Akran Of Badagry, De Wheno Menu- Toyi Dies At 89 by xxxx999jon: 9:08pm On Jan 12
SonOfDSoil01:
he still referred to as Oba Akran because he is a king in yorubaland land while Akran is the title he hold over badagry kingdom as the paramount ruler.
it's a wrong title calling him "Oba" it's Alohu..Egun and Yoruba is as distinct as Igbo and Yoruba language..nog similar at all.

bro there is nothing like Oba Akran..that was the name Yorubas call the king in Badagry..you will never hear an Egun man call Badagry king Oba..its strictly Aholu.

so are native Yorubas not also found in Benin republic? undecided we share common ancestry and the oyo empire didn’t just end on the borders of Nigeria…….read your history books and educate yourself undecided
I took time to go through your posts on this issue and I could see people have corrected you yet you remain stuck in ignorance.

@xxxx999jon @Emmah123 @davoneskay have all stated what is, yet you're spewing thrash. Who do not know that Yorubas are also found in Benin republic? Or the Asantes found in Ghana and Ivory coast due to the arbitrary border demarcation by the colonialist?

The fact still remains that the Egun people are very distinct from the Yorubas in terms of culture and language, though they speak and understand Yoruba but an average Yoruba people can't speak neither understand their language.

FYI, I was born in Badagry had my primary and secondary education in both Badagry and Benin republic. I had very close interaction with the people, the culture and the environment.

The fact that a road is name 'Oba' Akran doesn't mean that Oba is the right word for king in egun land. 'Aholu' is the literal meaning of Oba.

If you still want to argue further, I am here.

It's like saying for the fact that Emir is the name of king in Kano and Sokoto that means that they re Arabs

Emir is an Arabic word for kings

Egun is a different tribe from Yoruba ...

Exactly, you got it, @Dsonof dsoil1 just refused to be enlightened.

The original eguns can never claim to be Yorubas, non of the eguns that I have met , hundreds of them never claim to be Yoruba, even their names are very unique however a very few of them have Yoruba names yet they lay claim to their ancestry being from Dahomey. The eguns are in Badagry and Ipokia yet distinct and unique in their ways.
