This is economic sabotage. Why important fresh fish and salt? Items we should be exporting. Can't Dangote supply diesel at a cheaper cost?
It's done to frustrate of stabilize the prices of goods / food.

Same here. I was thinking they'll say it's free for all, but instead they said what everyone already know as the regular.

Reflecting on the food crisis from a year ago, it is clear how the actions of Northern suppliers shaped the market. At that time, many Northern traders intentionally hoarded essential goods, driving the price of beans as high as 180,000. Today, that same quantity has plummeted to 53,000.

Last year, we faced severe shortages of basic staples like onions, tomatoes, and pepper. Northern suppliers boldly claimed they would rather export these products to neighboring countries than sell them locally, forcing the government to step up border policing.

In response to this, the Tinubu administration (Asiwaju) strategically approved food import permits. This move has directly countered the hoarding tactics used by these regional suppliers. Many of them took out significant bank loans to stock up on food, betting on continued scarcity to maximize profits. Now that imported goods are stabilizing the market, those who hoarded are facing bankruptcy—a direct consequence of trying to hold the country's food supply to ransom.
What's the impact of this move on Nigeria's economy and her currency that has almost gone out of value?

There’s nothing on this list we can’t produce locally
Yet they still allow their imports

PAPIJAID:
Abeg let them import if that will solve this hyper inflation problem, Buhari tried to let Nigerians produce rice instead of importing but what did we get...abeg import if Nigerians will be able to afford it
The mistake Nigerians make is that they think import substitution is the answer.

Countries do best when they focus resources in areas they have competitive and comparative advantage in. A motivational speaker would state areas that "are your calling."

If you have to place high import duties on a product or even ban it completely before it can be produced, that simply means it's not your calling.

Nigeria has no competitive or comparative advantage in producing the rice the country eats the most. In a place like in Thailand, it is grown as many as 3 times in a year.

The primary cause of hunger is not the lack of man. It is actually the lack of money.

I don't see how making food more expensive helps the poor.

Can't we produce all those things in our con3?
Ask Obi who wants to be president and shouting that we should produce whereas he is importing. I'm sure his containers are among th3 onea.on the sea. OBI IS A BIG FRAUD. NOT P4ODUCIBG ANYTHING IN NIGERIA.
