Former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili, has assured Governor Siminalayi Fubara of his support amid the political crisis rocking the state.

At an event in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Odili assured the governor that the people of the state are firmly with him, urging him to stand strong.

He said, “Your people are with you, and they have asked me to tell you that you are the political leader of Rivers State.

“Rivers people said that wherever you go, we will go with you. Wherever you stand, we will stand with you. You are standing on firm ground. Stand there and hold on to God.”

DAILY POST reports that Odili’s remarks followed the renewed face-off between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike

The leaders of Rivers State should all be ashamed of themselves starting with Mr Odili. This is because he was the first Governor since 1999. If they had a good system and influence, Rivers will not be in this mess. They were all products of PDP. The epitome of their failure is where for the first time since 1999, Rivers has been pulled down by the cracks within the house.

- Peter Odili - 1999-2007 (PDP)
- Celestine Omahi - 2007 (PDP)
- Rotimi Amaechi - 2007-2015 (PDP, nPDP)
- Nyesom Wike - 2015-2023 (PDP)
- Fubara - 2023-2025 (PDP); 2026 - 2027 (APC)

Every Governor after Odili has always had problems with the house of Assembly, except Wike. That state is an oil rich state that should have had institutions far beyond what other Nigerian states can dream of. Instead of that, the thing we remember Rivers State for is violence and power struggle.
