Nigeria's NBS Delays Release Of Unemployment Data 14 Months On by Racoon(op): 11:47am On Jan 15
Africa’s Giant Delays Unemployment Data 14 Months on.
It has been 14 months since the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) last released official unemployment data, underscoring persistent weaknesses in Nigeria’s labour-market reporting and leaving Africa’s most populous nation trailing peers, including Ghana, South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, and Angola on data timeliness.

Nigeria, referred to as Africa's giant, experienced significant delays in releasing official unemployment data, with reports in early 2026 highlighting a 14-month gap since the last official figures, causing concern over transparency and accurate labor market assessment compared to other African nations like Ghana and South Africa.

This delay underscores weaknesses in the National Bureau of Statistics's (NBS) reporting, leaving investors and policymakers without timely information on the nation's high youth unemployment and brain drain issues, even as different reports suggest rising rates.........

Re: Nigeria's NBS Delays Release Of Unemployment Data 14 Months On by Racoon(op): 11:54am On Jan 15
A country’s unemployment data is a major macroeconomic indicator that measures the performance of any economy, and help to hold policymakers to accountability.

So, the delay is not good for Nigeria as it shows a case of misplaced priority towards human capital development, lack of innovation, investments and wastage of resources towards solving unemployment in the country.

The outdated unemployment data is indicative of how human capital development and the initiatives towards harnessing it are valued in this nation. This suggests that the political will to solving the nation's unemployment trend is questionable,

They are ashamed of the data.
It's going to be embarrassing 😳, that's why.
Many more are jobless and those on payed employment have to work two jobs, main job and a side hustle to meet up with their needs, due to the inflation caused by the worthless naira devaluation and removal of fuel subsidy.
Very useless and fruitless government policies.
Strangulating the poor to feed the flamboyant, callous, heartless kleptomanically rich elite to sustain their life styles 😢 💔.
That was not the shared dream we all had for this country 😢.
Nigerians should kick against the new tax laws, unless there is a cap/clause tied to the laws, like.
1.every money generated should be monitored in real time.
2. The money most be directly invested into education, health and basic infrastructure.
3.The contract to executed with the tax gain must be through direct labour, to avert excessive contract sums and abandoned projects.
4. Monthly and quarterly reports must be made in regards to tax gains and expenditure.
Nigerians, let your tax work for you.
Hold the government accountable.

Well, the statement "Na statistics we go chop" infers that they wouldn't care about statistics. So maybe BAT is sticking to his "principles."

If the data released is fall, then, it is as good as useful.

They start tampering with unemployment report during Buhari's government as the unemployment was above 30%. This was lamentably too high.

The truth needs to be known.

The administration is caught between the devil and deep blue see.

If it releases the data that reflects the reality on ground, it will give the opposition more ammunition. But if the data does not match the reality on ground, the masses will call the government out.

But methinks that a government that has no qualms signing an illegally doctored bill into law, should have no issues with manipulating a simple report to suit its narrative no matter how false...
