NIS Updates Passport Tracking System Amid Public Outcry Over Delay by OgundeleTeju(op): 6:11pm On Jan 15
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the rollout of an enhanced passport tracking feature.

The update posted by the Service on X on Thursday followed rising public clamour over delays in passport issuance and collection.

According to the Service, it had observed that hundreds of passports produced had remained uncollected, leading to increasing complaints from applicants.

The updated system introduces a new status—“PRODUCED (PASSPORT PRODUCED, READY FOR COLLECTION)”—to the existing passport tracker.
The feature is intended to give applicants clearer visibility on when their passports are ready for pickup or courier delivery, thereby reducing uncertainty around processing timelines.

The development followed weeks of heightened criticisms from passport applicants, including prominent Nigerians, who have taken to social media to express frustration with the process.

Public outcry on X had seen users report delays stretching into several months, as well as allegations of deliberate bottlenecks within the system.

However, the Service said the new tracker status would help applicants distinguish between production delays and passports that are ready but yet to be retrieved.

This update enhances the existing tracking system, and helps applicants stay informed about timelines for passports produced and awaiting collection (for physical collection) or produced but not delivered (for courier delivery),” the Service stated

A proof that the Nigerian immigration under interior ministry is serving the public diligently.

It's good one can now follow up the process to know when it's ready without having to know "who knows who".

Hype and propaganda party. It is almost 3 years since they took over from Buhari yet nothing has improved regarding the issuance of passports.

When the government gets ready, things will be forced to function very very well. We only need digital surveillance to monitor our pipelines, but the thieves won't allow it as the stealing is a collective operation.

This is highly commendable. It shows we now have a working governmental system.

Since the hike in price of passport, passport office has been scanty. Just walk in and process. No more stress. 🤣🤣

that's their job. Institutions usually should be innovative and dynamic. Yet you praise them for what they're mandated to be and do.

A maximum of 2 weeks.

I went for capturing in 3 days time and within 3 days I was asked to come and pick it up

Normally those Immigration service guys are criminals. 10years passport is 208k according to what I saw on the dashboard the day I went for capturing. But they'll ensure you pay above 250k to get their own money.

Never trust that tracking system, I once tracked mine, it was where it was until I went to meet them and I was told it has been ready a week after I did my capture...

COMRADES, honestly, I almost beat the officer handling my passport issuance suspecting him of diverting the money
But, this is a shame for Nigerian government (immigration) to subject Nigerians to go through this kind of experience
Honestly, it's very shameful

If, up to this moment, you have not seen any improvement and you are in this country Nigeria, then I'm sorry you need help. Because if not that you need help, have you forgotten how the former minister of interior left the ministry? Passport matter was even a no-go area, among other things. But you people can never see the good things but if it is bad news now that is what you will see. Please I will not even talk.

I paid N250k for mine in Lagos 3 years ago. You still have to part with funds to bribe different folks though, else you will wait for hours in line. Mine was out in just over a week and they said it's the expedited 10 year one I got. It was just a renewal, not a new one that could take longer and be more expensive.

Okay. Very good information. Most of our students/candidates can now follow up with the process from the comfort of their homes and offices.
Re: NIS Updates Passport Tracking System Amid Public Outcry Over Delay by Kemadealadire(f):
Those of you paying extra it's because you have refused to Do it yourself. The average Nigerian will rather pay than sit down to fill in their applications themselves.
