‎Governor Makinde Announces Olubadan, Oba Ladoja as Chairman Oyo Council of Obas as Alaafin Absent at Event

Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has been appointed as the first official chairman of the Oyo State Traditional Council of Obas, marking a historic milestone. Governor Seyi Makinde announced the appointment, citing the rotational system among prominent traditional rulers in the state, including the Alaafin of Oyo and the Soun of Ogbomosoland .

The Olubadan will serve a two-year term, aiming to promote unity and cooperation among traditional institutions in Oyo State. This development has been welcomed as a positive step towards strengthening traditional institutions .

Oba Ladoja, a seasoned politician and former Oyo State governor, brings vast experience to the role. He was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in September 2025, succeeding Oba Owolabi Olakulehin .

The state house of assembly passed the Law to make it rotational last year and which was signed by the Govornor. Not that Seyi just woke up one day and decided to appoint Ladoja as Chairman

It is rotational between the three for as periode of two years as passed into Law by the house

Before Osun state was carved out of Old Oyo state, Ooni Sijuade was the permanent chairman of the Old Oyo state council of traditional rulers. The late Alaafin Adeyemi fought Ooni Sijuade all through till the military government created Osun state in 1992.

The Olubadan and the Soun are now doing the same to the Alaafin. However, unlike Alaafin Adeyemi that was not successful in his bid to start a rotation in Old Oyo state, the Soun and Olubadan suceeded at it in the new Oyo state. Congrats to the Soun and Olubadan.

Making Olubadan as chairman council of OBA’s in Oyo state is a big disrespect to the throne Alaafin of Oyo. Here in Osun, Ooni of Ife is the permanent chairman while the vice position is on rotation.
