LabStores:I understand that you are suffering from nostalgic syndrome. Empire rises and fall. What’s left behind after the fall of an empire is the legacy. From your analysis, Constantinople was the capital of the Ottoman Turkish empire at their peak before 1922 before it finally crumbled. The empire is now reduced to Turkey with a new capital Ankara. If not for politics and constitution, maintaining tradition would Alaafin have the power to control whoever is ruling Ibadan as Baale? Present constitution is the one giving the Alaafin the privilege it enjoys. Of course Oyo and her king can’t withstand Ibadan if they go to war. Ibadan will be the one controlling Oyo cos Ibadan will be an empire on its own. Once again, quit nostalgic syndrome. A train that is gone is gone. |

LabStores:My brother, there is a big difference between the position of the Ooni and Alaafin. Ile Ife is the source of all humanity. It is our orirun. Whether you’re Alaafin, Oba of Benin, Olu of Warri, Oba of Lagos, Olubadan, Alake etc, we all trace our ancestry and royalty back to Ile Ife. So, the leadership position of the Ooni is inherent. All Yoruboid groups don’t argue about that. We cannot joke with our source because doing that will amount to denigrating our history. Alaafin on the other hand has no such inherent leadership position. He became powerful strictly as a result of military conquest. Sadly, he no longer possesses that military power to subjugate other towns. So, nobody owes him any loyalty again. All the vassal states under the old empire are now independent towns under the sovereignty of Nigeria. |

The permanent chairman of the old Oyo State Council of Obas before Osun State was created was the Ooni of Ife. Specifically, this position was held by Oba Okunade Sijuwade (the 50th Ooni of Ife) from 1980 until Osun State’s creation in August 1991. 📜 Historical Background · In 1976, the military administrator of Oyo State, Major General David Jemibewon, issued a decree that made the Ooni of Ife the permanent chairman of the old Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs. · The first Ooni to hold this position under the decree was Oba Adesoji Aderemi (the 49th Ooni). After his death, he was succeeded by Oba Okunade Sijuwade, who was installed as Ooni in December 1980 and continued as permanent chairman of the council. · Oba Sijuwade remained the permanent chairman until August 1991, when Osun State was carved out of the old Oyo State. 🔍 Key Points · The role was exclusive to the Ooni of Ife due to the 1976 decree, which sparked a long-standing leadership tussle with other prominent Yoruba monarchs, such as the Alaafin of Oyo. · After the creation of Osun State, the Ooni of Ife became the permanent chairman of the Osun State Council of Obas and Chiefs, while the old Oyo State council (now covering the reduced Oyo State) later adopted a rotational chairmanship system. Therefore, the permanent chairman of the old Oyo State Council of Obas before Osun State was created was Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Ooni of Ife. maidstone: |

I think Ibadan was a settlement camp of warriors made up of generals and junior ranks from different parts of Yoruba land under the authority of alaafin of oyo. Just like military barracks/garrisons and president in aso rock. Even if external enemy succeeded in burning the whole of aso rock, it is still the duty of the soldiers from far barracks to come to the defence of the president and seat of power. So according to culture and history Ibadan is a developed warriors camp that transformed to a town and later a city under the authority of a oyo empire, and their baale being upgraded to king by alaafin of oyo. |

LabStores:Look into the mirror, what you see in the mirror is “senseless hypocrisy and bias”. Ife was also an empire but little was documented and written about it until the recent archeological findings. Ife still retain its king, part of its land with the monuments, crowns and there was no evidence of discontinuity in throne. Could all these be said about Oyo empire? |
