A man has sparked widespread reactions on social media after claiming that money now determines acceptance, even within families.

In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, the man, identified as Lawrence Kitema, expressed frustration over what he described as growing cruelty towards poor people.

Kitema lamented that financial status has become a measure of worth, even among relatives who should offer unconditional support.

“Nowadays, you need money to become a member of your own family. This world is so cruel to the poor,” he wrote.

The world is cruel to the poor but if your family measure the love, respect and care they have for you, based on financial strengths, it shows you're from a dysfunctional home.

Family is always a shelter for people whether poor or rich.

I have the natural habit of training myself to not be slave to money, I get broke many times and I am thankful to God for the kind of a family where I belong. I literally cannot relate.

Your family may be nice to you but deep down, somewhere hidden somehow, this is the reality. If you start borrowing from members of your family without being able to make refund, that's when you'll know that there is boundary even in the family. That's when this quote will make sense to you. Don't misquote me, I'm also from a good family.

That's the sad ironic reality that we're in, blood isn't always thicker than water as relatives and family members only measure the love, respect and care they have for you based on your financial strength and success and will not regard you when you're struggling nowadays strangers treat you better than your own family
