A photograph of Sir Ahmadu Bello attending the graduation ceremony of Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in England in the 1950s, after sponsoring him to attend the academy. Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu later assassinated Sir Ahmadu Bello and members of his family on 15 January 1966 during Nigeria’s first military coup.

You guys actually think Ahmadu Bello traveled all the way to England to attend the graduation of Patrick Chukwuma Nzeogwu when he graduated from Sandhurst? At the time, the area Nzeogwu comes from was still in the Western Region Why would the Northern Premier, Ahmadu Bello, go to attend the graduation of a Westerner? Does any of the two people around Bello look like Nzeogwu? And by the way, the graduation uniform of Sandhurst has always been black uniform, not gray that those men are wearing |

Arafat2022:We are expecting more of this type of topic targeted at tarnishing Igbo image and possibly causing Northerners to get upset with Igbos as the 2027 Presidential election draws closer. That has been you guys only political tactics since the end of the civil war but you guys ought to know that nothing stays forever, everything has an expiry date. The time is almost up, stop all these ethnic incitement against the Igbos and play healthy politics of telling Nigerians how Tinubu transformed Nigeria since 2023 and how he intends to make Nigerian people's lives better if he wins reelection in 2027. Enough of painting Igbos black, focus on marketing your brother Tinubu and promoting his good works if there is any, stop gaslighting Northerners to join you in your unjust disdain for the Southeasterners. Stop heating up Nigeria with nepotism and ethnic division, you guys are setting a very dangerous record, future is bigger than present, you guys should have a rethink and allow Nigerians to manage the fragile unity it has currently |

franchasng:Gibberish.. As if the north needs to read nairaland to remember how you guys greedily unalive there leader’s.. We’ll always talk about Nigeria history right from the creation. Your fore-fathers were super greedy and despite everything, they all labored in vain. None of them did anything tangible for the Ibos aside from stealing money.. Your fore-father carried out a coup and after the coup, they immediately destroyed our regionalism, with the believe that it will be sweet to control the whole country from the center. Unfortunately for them, life happened to them, the North grabbed power again and discovered it’s indeed sweet to be controlling Nigeria from the center... The rest is history.. It’s one of the reasons why I don’t usually blame the north for Nigeria’s problem. South created most of Naija problem, most especially, SE.. |

PulaPower:Ordinarily, I am not supposed to reply you, but since I am free now, I will. First, stop allowing ethnic dislike to control your thoughts and reasoning as human. Your political elites told you guys so much lies about the Igbos which you guys have held on to for several years now and refused to do personal research and even analyze issues based on available facts and not some hearsay or they said or I heard. I am going to present facts to you which you can personally research to know if it's true or not. General Aguiyi Ironsi the first Military Head of state of Nigeria who happened to be Igbo was removed via counter coup in 1966. While he was Military Head of state, Nigeria still ran regional system of government. Col. Odimegwu Ojukwu was the Military Governor of Eastern Nigeria. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi was the Military Governor of Western Region. Maj. Gen. Hassan Katsina was the Military Governor of Northern Region. Col. David Ejoor was the Military Governor of Midwestern Region of Nigeria. Immediately Ironsi was removed, Gowon took over as Military Head of State and after taking power, Gowon replaced the four large regions (North, East, West, Mid-West) with a 12-state structure in 1967. Gowon stated that he dissolved the regional system as a strategic move to dilute regional power, reduce ethnic tensions, and prevent further fragmentation. This effectively ended the pre-existing regional system. But as usual, Yoruba media propaganda always love to blame Igbos for every political issue in Nigeria, so they always held on to decree 34 by Aguiyi Ironsi as what ended regional system of government but under the same man they said ended regional system, Nigeria had Regional Governors, Western Region had a Military Regional Governor, Fajuyi. Now you may ask what was decree 34 all about? It was a usual practice for all military personnel that seized power in their nations back then to find ways to consolidate power to avoid political uprising against them, so they usually suspend their nation's constitution and adopt the use of military decree to enact laws they used to rule their nations in place of national constitution. Decree 34 abolished political parties, unified civil service in Nigeria to give the military head of state the power to control state institutions and prevent political uprising. But as usual, Yorubas intentionally ignored Gowon's decree no 14 of May 27, 1967 that instantly abolished regional governments and created the first 12 states in Nigeria, which ended the regional system of government and rather blamed Aguiyi Ironsi's decree no 34 that only unified civil service and abolished political parties while keeping regional governments as Nigeria still had Regional Governors before Ironsi was removed via bloody counter coup. So tell me, how did Ironsi ended Regional government in Nigeria when under his military leadership Nigeria still had 4 regional governments with their respective Regional Governors? Tell me why Ironsi who never created a single state but kept all the four regions and appointed Military Governors to oversee the four regions the person to be blamed instead of Gowon that abolished regional governments and created the first 12 states in Nigeria? |

He is greatly honored by Nigeria Many roads in Nigeria were named after him. You could hardly enter any town in Nigeria without finding "Ahmadu Bello Way" Wasn't he the one drawn on N200? |

PulaPower:This is a recent publication by people who never participated in the events of that era that just want to write what they feel or believe happened and not really what happened based on facts I have given you and will still state below. I asked you, if Ironsi truly abolished Regional system, can you tell me why he still went ahead to appoint Military Governors for all the four regions of Nigeria who oversaw the affairs of the four regions? Can you also tell me why he didn't create states? Have you ever read the full content of decree no 34 of Ironsi that history rewriters blamed as what abolished regional governments in Nigeria? Decree 34 was mainly to unify civil service and abolish political parties which was normal for every military that seized power in any nation then and even now. Use your critical thinking not what someone typed. Did Ironsi abolish regional governments? Answer is NO because he still appointed regional Governors for each of the four regions of Nigeria which I already named for you. Did Ironsi create states to replace regions with states? The answer is NO! Did Gowon create states and replaced regions with states? Answer is YES! Ironsi died in Ibadan as part of his official tour around the four regions of Nigeria. The man that abolished regional governments was officially touring the four regions as part of his national peace and reconciliation tour. Yet they claimed he abolished regional governments but he was arrested at the official residence of Western Region Governor Fajuyi in Ibadan, can't you see the lies and the contradictions? Can't you see the simple analysis with proof or you prefer some written hogwash by some people who just want to write? |

This is what Army Remembrance day is for January 15th every year This is how op celebrates the army Remembrance day every year. This army Remembrance day is not for unknown soldier. It is a day set aside to remember get angry and double down on the hatred, bitterness, disunity, that has plagued Nigeria since then. And they are still revenging they don't want to let go. Like the way op is doing now. Okay oya set another day aside to remember the July 28 counter coup, that one is meaningless to them, it means nothing to them, is not worth remembering. I hope SE leaders are watching Hope, the two Kalus, behind their backs they might be calling them fools. |

franchasng:Did you participate in the event? Lol. I’ve answered your question.. Military never works with the constitution, whenever military takes over, the constitution becomes suspended immediately. Aguiyi ironsi immediately suspended the constitution, political parties and cultural association were also suspended. Nobody can ever rewrite history. Go and read the speeches of Aguiyi Ironsi in Jan 18, 1966 and Feb 21, 1966. A Part of his speech says " Nigerians want an end to regionalism and activities that lead to tribal consciousness and sectional interests must give way to an era of national unity". Decree 34 took away the autonomy of the regions while they merely existed on paper. |

If you go back to Gideon Orka coup message, peharps any decerning mind would decode... The matter between Nzeogwu and Ahmadu Bello is deeper than what people see on the surface... |

Stop deluding yourselves that northerners twill ever forget the heinous crimes committed by you in 1966. Even if we want to pretend to forget, the evil, vindictive, hateful and ethnic bigotry displayed by you since 2023 reminded everyone of your innate toxic nature. Because you lost an election, you prefer to turn the country upside down out of sheer hatred for the winner and consequently transferred same to his. Like it or not, history cannot be erased but well sustained for posterity. Live with it. |
