How Obasanjo’s Son, Olujonwo Endorsed Buhari Against Father’s Wish (Flashback) by Ofunaofu(op): 11:20pm On Jan 15
The more things change, the more they stay the same is a popular saying ascribed to ancient French writer, Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

On Thursday night, news broke that one of the sons of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, had done what some may consider the unbelievable. But in politics, the words of Karr ring true. Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, popularly known as Abba, endorsed President Bola Tinubu, his father’s political ally turned rival, for reelection.

The younger Atiku not only endorsed Tinubu but converted the arsenal he put together for his father in the last election into a war chest for Tinubu by directing all the coordinators and members of the Haske Atiku Organisation to immediately align with the APC and support the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He had said, “My name is Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, but everyone calls me Abba. I am here today to formally announce my exit from my former party, where we worked in 2023, and my decision to join the APC. With this development, I will work to actualise the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, come 2027.”

This episode is a reminder of how Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, endorsed former President Muhammadu Buhari in the buildup to the 2019 election. At that period, Obasanjo had fallen out with Buhari, whom he demarketed at virtually every possible opportunity.

The elder statesman had asked Nigerians to vote out Buhari, a position his son rejected.

in a two-page statement of endorsement of buhari, Obasanjo’s son admitted that no human could be perfect, and listed what he claimed as the achievements of the Buhari administration.

“The current administration has begun the process of laying a solid foundation for future generations. They have deliberated and contemplated extensively on our myriad of issues and complexity as a nation to proffer deeply rooted plans and polices to tackle and establish a strong base on which to build and consolidate upon.”

“It is also important to note that this process is not without pains but we should consider where we were, where we are and where we are going. The current administration has given hope to the common man; it is the dawn of a new age.

“I would humbly and strongly appeal that we all embrace and support Buhari’s government in his aggressive, relentless pursuit of equitable distribution of wealth and resources to the masses to aid the growth and development of our nation. He is seriously improving and empowering local farmers, industrialists, the women, the SME and businessmen.

“The government is serious about development and has given new life to the steel industry and the Buhari Administration is determined to industrialise our nation and to make us a producing nation and the revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex and completion of the baro and Lokoja ports are examples.

“The current administration has sought to address our importation of petroleum products through the relocation of refineries. These are few examples, a whole book is needed to put the achievement and successes of the current administration into details. The current administration has invested more in education, health, agriculture, security, road infrastructural development to aid the growth of the economy despite receiving less revenue.

“The ingenuity of the current administration in proffering solutions is highly commendable. No human is perfect, no government is perfect, only the Creator of heaven and earth embodies perfection. We are on the right path and should not deviate.

“The youths of our great nation should join hands and support the progress and giant strides of President Buhari, he is working commendably to free us from past bondage and captivity.

“We are on the right path but we must not go back into bondage again. I am calling on the youths of our nation to let us work together to return President Buhari to power in 2019,” he had said.

Coincidentally, Atiku, whose son’s action elicited this piece, was the one Obasanjo sided with at the time.

Recall that Atiku was Buhari’s main challenger in 2019. Currently, he is seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to run against Tinubu in what would be his third straight attempt at the presidency, should he get the ticket.

The OP Ofunaofu is not being sincere with himself
Was Obasanjo also contesting for presidency in 2019?

Atiku's son declaring for the re-election of Tinubu is a huge blow to the electoral big of Atiku because it would mean Atiku's has failed to convince his own family members to vote for him, how then will he be able to convince others to vote him

What nonsense is this because you can’t use someone who is presidential candidate son compare someone who has no electoral ticket son. What logic in that?
Obasanjo was like someone supporting Arsenal and his son supporting Manchester United.

Tinubu rules out alliance with CPC

Prospect of a possible alliance between the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, was dashed yesterday in Kano as the leader of the party and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu described CPC as parading “expired leadership.”

Tinubu told ACN supporters in Kano during the party’s Presidential rally that: “What Nigerians need now is a transformation in leadership” as obtained in the advanced economy.

The two-term Governor of Lagos State explained that the leadership of ACN was offering Nigeria the brilliance of Nuhu Ribadu who, he said, is in the class of Nicolas Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain, Medvedev of Russia and Barack Obama of the United States of America.

“What has CPC got to offer? We certainly don’t need expired leadership as we are offering the best in terms of brilliance, courage and patriotism in the class of Sarkozi of France, David Cameron of Britain and Barack Obama of the USA.”

Tinubu’s position came on the heels of Ribadu’s declaration penultimate week in Kaduna when he hinted during a political rally of a joint ticket between the two opposition parties to confront the dominance of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The national leader of ACN criticised President Goodluck Jonathan for shying away from the national debate held last Friday, stressing that”that singular act exposed Jonathan as a coward who has nothing to offer.”

A son betrayed his father at a critical time and some are saying there is nothing bad. If your son cannot trust you why will I? He knows you better than I do. He has tested you and discovered that you are not what people think you are. Infact that is why many pastors sons are wayward. They see what is happening in the home and what their parents are preaching outside and discovered that they are contradictory.

The former Commissioner of Health, Adamawa State was received into the party in Abuja on Monday.

The medical professional turned politician registered and received her party membership card at her ward in the Wuse area of the nation’s capital.

We should never put our trust in men like us. They are also dust (Read Psalms 146:3-5)

I thought we were talking about OBJ's son endorsing Buhari in 2019 (Someone said he must have regretted after 2023, to which I expressed the opinion that anyone that endorsed Buhari in 2019 and turned against him after 2023 couldn't have been a very bright person, because Buhari's first term was a disaster for all to see). Whoever put this up trying to justify and compare the two is being clever by half.
It is true that in politics, father and son mustn't have the same ideology. However, if you can't convince your son to support your political ambition, how on earth will you convinced others.
Again, Obasanjo was not in active politics when his son declared his support for Buhari. To me, Atiku should heed this warning and support someone else to slog it out with Tinubu

This can only happen in one region in Nigeria, Southwest - if it happens especially in the East, you will become their permanent enemy- They must all sleep and face one side - so that when they drown, they drown as a people. No freedom of expression, no dynamism, no liberalism.....One man somewhere must decide for the whole tribe, who to vote, when to sit at home, who not to support - And if you do otherwise, you are seen as permanent enemy. The only region who sees opposition as enemy.

Stop deceiving yourself, OBJ son didn't endorsed Buhari against his father, when his father was the sitting President, rather he endorsed Buhari in 2019, and remember OBJ endorsed Buhari in 2015, so the endorsement by OBJ son in 2019 was just a charade.

Will you rather banter with Tinubu’s finance minister huh

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”
