Osariemen12:Dear Gen z. If you hear or read about about loot or looting of the national Treasury by Abacha, that stove is one of the effects. Somehow, it is similar to today's economy hardships from sophisticated looting of savings from subsidy removal by Tinubu. Whenever, he too leaves office and hidden truth is coming out, something to remember him for ongoing looting we come up as well, to be nickname after him. |

My mum used it . At first it was free and in abundance, later we paid for it and became scarce. I remember we used to stay back at the saw mill to pack the newly saw dust from the saw machine when the scarcity took turns. Tinubu shege na small fraction compared to Abacha own. May we never experience such again. amen |

Iya Tolu, my distant uncle's maiguard wife used it. It brings fumes and it irritates the lungs. Sometimes I cough violently. Poverty brings out the creativity in people. |

peterjero:That's your opinion and you are fully entitled to it. For me it was so much fun, from plucking guavas on our way to the saw mill, to playing mopol at the saw mill compound, playing hide and seek behind heavy logs of timber. Rushing and scooping saw dust and wood shafts, washing the saw mill workers using manual jacks to haul and roll heavy logs of timbers, watching how a man manned saw will first slice the logs to board, then the other saw will slice the boards to 2X4, 2X3, etc. Such type of saw mills no longer exist in my locality. |

We used it at home, truly those were the darkest days. |

Buharidgeneral:I didn’t use it but this your comment is a lie, Nigerians didn’t start selling everything until late 2000. Things like sawdust’s, wood shavings, etc... were free almost everywhere, you just got to go to the sawmills on time and beg their securities to allow you pack as many as you want. It’s a waste to them, so they need people to come and pack it. |

unitysheart:funny enough, gas was cheap that time oo. Economics says the lower the demand of a commodity, the lesser the price of that commodity. I think there was just this fear of explosion that was created in people that made people avoid it like a plague. |

Datedoboy:Investment that should have been done to make the future better was left undone and the money was stolen so the consequence is what we are facing today. If nothing is done again today,in the nearest future when our population has increase exponentially, today's economy will be like child's play compare to that time. Imagine we have built like 5 functioning refinery and the whole country is linked by fast trains and so many great infrastructures things would been better now but few people stole all the funds. |

I don’t believe in God. Thank nature for being born in the family I landed in. I used stoves only in my university days because of cost cutting. Every other time, gas cookers. My mother sometimes used firewood in a bid to claim “you children grew up soft. This was how it was done in my time.” Body dey quickly tell am. She dropped the act after four days of continuous use. |

Sonnobax15:It wasn't about brokeness as many people were not actually broke then But because of the strike by Nupeng and other oil workers you can't even get kerosene to buy so most people resorted to Abacha stove which uses saw dust |

Kaiii, kudos to Nigerians, Nigerians don stuff for different wicked government hands oooo If Nigerians can survive Abacha government an his stove, no any wicked government we Nigerians can never survive. May God Almighty continue to be out straight to shame them. |

There is nothing wrong with it. I feel bad as an engineer not to have modified it and make it available for use in households rather than destroying our forests and making charcoal. I am taking that challenge and research into it. We just burn saw dust away in our sawmills over the nation wasting resources. |

The north has always brought the worst of their stock to rule this country. Abacha,Buhari etc. I will exclude yaradua |
| Re: Who Witnesse Abacha Stove? (Pictures) by SAMAJ: 5:53am On Jan 18 |
Sonnobax15:Abacha stove was not as a result of being broke. It was due to unavailability of kerosene to power the normal stove. This was at a time that NUPENG and PENGASSAN were on strike for like 3 months. Nigerians saw hell. |

O Sonnobax15:It's not "Abacha Stove". It existed well before Abacha. I know this Stove. It was used in villages in my area. However, one thing I remember well, was people going to cut living trees, soak them in diesel fuel, and use them for cooking. It was on the news. I also remembered the smelly, chemical petrol. |

Oakenshield:I'm surprised seeing his comment that it was not free . Because then , it was as if we were doing the sawmillers favour by packing the sawdusts . It was a hard time ### |

Biodun556:Both the rich and poor experienced it - it was a result of the demonic sanctions of the collective west on Nigeria at the time, the same tool they use till date to limit countries growth and complete liberty. There are outright sanctions, tariffs and systemic sanctions placed on goods camouflaged as standards. Those era was tough, army picks people up as they want- as a young boy, passing in front of Ojo barracks at the time or Signal barracks (Mile 2) was scary. They can even come to the next bus stop, move people to their gate to start picking papers, or cutting grass. There were older men that they would punish, make you do frog jump every morning. You literally cannot question the military anywhere....As soon as i gained admission into LASU at the time, we used every opportunity to fight back, every soldier caught in our own school gate area too get beaten. That era was hellish......this indomie generation can never understand...... Refilling your gas was more expensive than the minimum wage at the time...... Many families could not even afford kerosene, only the rich use gas. The average families could only afford room & parlor in a face me i slap you compound. Most toilets were latrines or pit toilet, where will you see WC. |
