“Saying You Support Tinubu Should Be Punishable by Death” — Obidient’s Post Sparks Backlash

A controversial post on social media has sparked intense backlash after a supporter of the Obidient movement suggested extreme punishment for Nigerians who publicly defend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The comment, shared on X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral, triggering heated debates among users divided over Tinubu’s policies, economic reforms, and the current state of the nation.

The post was made by an X user identified as Abu Amir, who openly identified himself as a member of the Obidient movement and a supporter of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In his post, Abu Amir argued that many supporters of President Tinubu were motivated by personal benefits rather than a genuine belief in national development.

He wrote:

“Supporting Tinubu because you stand to personally benefit something is okay, but telling us that you support Tinubu because he’s going to move this country forward should be punishable by death.”

The statement immediately drew sharp criticism from many Nigerians, with some describing it as dangerous, extreme, and unacceptable, regardless of political differences.

The post generated mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some users defended Abu Amir’s comment as an expression of frustration over the country’s economic challenges, many others condemned it, warning that such rhetoric could fuel political intolerance and division.

Several users stressed that freedom of expression and political choice remain fundamental democratic rights and should not be threatened with violence or extreme language.

Others urged supporters of all political parties to engage in constructive debate rather than personal attacks and inflammatory statements.

The incident highlights the deepening political polarization among Nigerians, particularly on social media, as discussions around governance, economic hardship, and reform continue to dominate public discourse.

As of the time of this report, Abu Amir has not issued a clarification or apology regarding the post.

Should we be surprised. Bitterness runs in their veins

The funny part is how those people still believe Nigeria will ever vote for whoever they present in 2027 is what I am yet to know.

They took their own opposition to the high level of bitterness, sadness and frustrations

What is the difference living in a country where the useless government can't protect you from marauding killers?

The usual culprits not surprised or disappointed...

Obidients should be gathered together and given orientation before induction - seminar style.

They act like a headless mob- they show little tolerance for other opinions and democracy itself.

They are always right... even though they can never seem to prove it with facts. Just bully tactics. And shouting above the noise hoping their shouting drowns common sense.

Nonsense people!

Anyone can claim anything online. Don't believe anything you see online. Even oxford dictionary has added the word 'ragebait' to their dictionary.

People should stop making statements like this. The DSS should trace him and pick him up immediately.

Nigeria is a democratic society - everyone should be allowed to support candidates of their choice.

This is a dangerous trend from the North.

This is my prediction:

In the next 30 years, Nigeria will surely be like Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, etc., where izlamist will overrun the governmentt, either by insurgency or by politics, and will declare a particular group of people, like the Druze, Kurds, African Sudanese, Igbos, Southern Nigeria (Idoma, Tiv, Igbos, Ibibios, generally all Nigerian Chrsittians etc.) as terrrorists of which it is justified to use the federal might against.

That time is a must to come.

The question is, will the South be prepared for it? Will we be the Druze and Kurds begging for mercy and international aid, or will we be the Jews who were already prepared to dominate their oppressors?

That means you were not alive in 2014 when the mock coffin of a sitting president was paraded as campaign strategy...or when an old shameless confessor was calling the wife of a sitting president shepopotamus

Infact, having the believe of sitting at home for 2 years to be the solution of compounded issues, something could have been wrong with such thinking faculty

But Obidients claimed they are saint, they are different, why are they now doing things in more horrible way than Apc?
Re: Saying You Support Tinubu Should Be Punishable By Death — Abu Amir by AMINDA: 9:53am On Jan 19
Nairaland is no longer hiding its bias. Agbadorians on twitter have said worse things about Obi and Atiku. None of them made Nairaland frontpage. We know many so-called Obidients are just moles planted by the ruling party. They will reveal themselves immediately before and after the elections. We saw it happen in 2023.
