AFCON 2025: NFF President Confirms Decision On Eric Chelle To Continue by robosky02(op): 10:50am On Jan 19
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has confirmed the NFF’s decision on Eric Chelle’s future after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026. Read more:

NFF set a target of reaching the final and winning the trophy for Chelle, but he fell short of this, losing to Morocco in the semi-final and winning the bronze medal.

As noted by CAF, the Super Eagles defeated Egypt to win their record-extending ninth bronze medal and kept their streak of never losing a third-place playoff match.

Nigerians applauded Chelle for his team’s performance, and despite failing to achieve the objectives and not qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, they want him to continue with the team.

NFF confirms Eric Chelle’s future NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has confirmed the decision on Eric Chelle’s future in a statement published on the federation’s official website after the bronze medal match.

Gusau confirmed that the team’s target was to win the trophy, but would accept a bronze medal because of the diligent display by the Super Eagles.

He confirmed that the captain is one to be proud of and has prompted the NFF to continue to encourage the team, and as such, will continue to work with Chelle.

Chelle, during his post-match conference after the win over Egypt, admitted that it would have been difficult to continue if Nigeria had lost the bronze medal match. However, his comments suggest that he is keen to continue working with the team if the NFF agrees to let him stay on as the head coach of the Super Eagles. “We will build on this experience, and it will be the foundation for the next phase of work,” he said. Chelle receives offer from Tunisia Legit.ng reported that Eric Chelle reportedly received a lucrative offer to coach the Tunisian national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

The Tunisian federation dismissed head coach Sami Trabelsi after its AFCON 2025 Round of 16 elimination six months before the World Cup.

He truly deserves it. I haven’t seen the Super Eagles play so well until recently.
I hope the NFF pays him all his accrued bonuses and does not owe his salary, as we have seen in recent years with other gaffers.

Nigeria with their drama. NFF doing business and making money hiring foreign coach on top Nigeria football future.

Satguru Maharajji warned NFF against ERIC CHELE before the nations cup. With CHELE Nigeria will not carry the nations cup.

In a statement on social media, Satguru Maharaj Ji asserted that Eric Chelle's "vibration is too low" to lead the Super Eagles effectively and that a black coach should take over the role. This came amid various reactions to Chelle's performance and the team's struggles in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

A bang average coach given the greenlight to continue
Corruption will finally kill the NFF and Nigerian football
An FA that can't organize coaching courses, build and run academies yet just focus on embezzling FIFA and government money
Smh
Oh and before anybody comes with that 3rd place c.ra.p
That was the bare minimum under the late greats like Chukwu,Amodu and Keshi
Smh

Not for missing penalty but for being unpatriotic and inciting it jokingly amongst his colleagues.

Even if they do. Are we to host tournament amidst these insurgency and banditry that's ravaging our dear nation? Nigeria is bleeding and can't host any internation tour for now.

They have embezzled monies that are supposed to be channelled into such. The sad thing is, a lot of people are still rooting and praising them.

No stadium in Nigeria can stand beside any of those stadia Morocco used for Afcon. They are all world class.

Let’s be honest: before Chelle, this team lacked direction. Today, we have a Super Eagles side that fights, believes, and delivers results again. Bronze at AFCON may not have been the target, but it shows clear improvement. Stability is what Nigerian football needs now. Chelle has earned the right to continue

The nff should shop for a tactically better coach...

Eric Chelle is not a fantastic or tactically sound coach.

We should start preparing now for the next world cup. Chelle can only do average things!

We once have them in Enugu, Calabar, PH, Ibadan, Kano, Kastina, Ijebu Ode and Surulere in Lagos till 2012 to the extent that we hosted All African Games, U-17 WC, AFCON but since APC took over they have become nothing to write home about.

Bad decision which they will regret. He is not tactically sound. All i see is a trial and error coach. If he was that good Mali wouldn't have parted ways with him
