Stanley Nwabali couldn't resist a cheeky dig at Morocco after their AFCON 2025 final defeat to Senegal, telling the Atlas Lions to wipe their tears in a playful social media post.

In the world of football, the banter wars are often just as intense as the action on the pitch. Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali proved this once again, taking a cheeky swipe at Morocco following their defeat to Senegal in the AFCON 2025 final.

Nwabali, who became a national hero after his impressive performance in Nigeria's third-place victory over Egypt, wasted no time heading to social media to settle an old score.

The "Towel Heist" context

The jab was a direct callback to the heated semifinal clash between Nigeria and Morocco in Rabat.

During that match, Moroccan officials confiscated Nwabali’s towel on two separate occasions, a move many fans saw as a mind game or a superstitious tactic to break the keeper's focus.

While Nigeria didn't make the final, Nwabali clearly kept receipts. After the Atlas Lions fell short of the trophy, the Chippa United shot-stopper posted a message that immediately went viral.

"Make Una use all my towel Una carry wipe Una tears," he posted across his social media platforms.

Fans react to the banter
Nigerian football fans, known for their sharp wit and "no gree for anybody" spirit, have celebrated the post. For many, it provided a sense of poetic justice after the frustration of the semifinal exit.

The post has garnered thousands of likes and shares, with fans praising Nwabali for his "savage" timing.

While the Super Eagles finished the tournament with bronze, Nwabali ensured that Nigeria walked away with the "Banter Gold Medal."

The Atlas Lions may have taken the towels, but Nwabali certainly got the last laugh.

I have lost my respect for Hakimi for stealing Nwabali towel.

This is a guy we thought is mature and more experienced in World Football.

God put them into shame and was humbled despite CAF and the Referee open bias.

That's the onus of the matter. No other country wants to build theirs yet we all are insulting Morocco. This same Morocco narrowly lost the bid to host the world cup this year, against the combined weight of USA, Mexico and Canada. The biggest country in the world.
