Ogidigben Gas Revolution Industrial Park (GRIP) located in the Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State is the largest single recipient of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) construction contracts in year 2025.

The project is one of Nigeria’s most ambitious gas-based industrial ventures. Located on 2,700 hectares, it will create Africa’s largest gas city and serve as a hub for multiple gas-based industries.

It has been designated as a Tax Free Zone (TFZ) under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement, and it is expected to eventually create some 250,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The venture is designed to transform “gas as fuel” to “gas as feedstock” by exploiting the over 18 trillion cubic feet gas reserves from fields like Forcados, Odidi, and Okan for these massive installations:

* Aluminum smelters
* Fertilizer plants
* Independent Power Plants (IPPs)
* Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants
* Methanol factories
* Petrochemical complexes.

The Ogidigben project deal is estimated at about $20 billion, making it one of the largest deals ever embarked upon by the Chinese.

The deal also places Nigeria as the global leader in BRI construction activity in year 2025, outpacing all other countries in terms of total value secured.

BACKSTORY

China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a massive global infrastructure and economic strategy launched 2013 by President Xi Jinping.

It aims to boost connectivity and cooperation via massive investments in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure across Africa, Asia, Europe, and beyond.

It revives ancient trade routes with the goal of enhancing China’s trade, diplomacy, and access to resources.

Is that not shameful itself, why should we be celebrating that a foreign country comes to gain more wealth from our resources when will we have global expansionism initiatives too

There is nothing shameful about a country receiving Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).

It is rather a positive sign that we are getting recognized as a good place to invest.

Also, if you read further on the project, you will realize that it is actually a win-win for Nigeria and China. Most of the factories being constructed on the site will earn Forex for Nigeria, which is why it has been designated as a Free Trade Zone (FTZ).

You are right, but let's be sincere apart from Lagos and Ogun State since all of these have been pushed how many other states have benefited from these arrangements. Many of our political leaders are just irresponsible, I personally don't believe in the idea of waiting for a foreigner to come and invest before I do something great, that's just me
