When people are outside the corridors of power, they seem to have the solutions to Nigeria's problems. .... Put those people in power, they fail spectacularly. Once in power, they forget all the solutions they once proffered when they were not in power. Today, Gen. Chris Musa holds political power. As Defence Minister, he has power to significantly solve military problems. But like I said, he would most likely fail at this. As Defence Minister, he should immediately stamp his foot down to ensure the M-TRACON project is completed under his watch. This is a key national Defence project that has been delayed for ages, in this era of drones and missiles.. Gen. Musa should ensure that his Ministry selects the Best option and signs the contract, with significant technology transfer and local content development. He also needs to look into our Border security architecture. As Defence minister, how can our borders be secured. Are the borders patrolled? Are they manned by police/immigration/customs? What is the current security arrangements for our borders. Do they need drones to monitor vast border?. These are the things Gen. Musa should be looking into. And trying to solve. Thirdly, the Nigerian Air Force lags behind the army & navy in their mordenization drive. I don't understand why NAF generals are averse to buying proper air superiority jets. Their C-130 heavy airlift planes are very old, overdue for replacement, I wouldn't fly in that old aircraft. The NAF lacks sufficient air superiority fighter jets for a nation like Nigeria. Its a shame. The NAF needs Air superiority fighters, at least 2 squadrons or 24 jets. China's J-10 or a Russian Su-30/35 jets are top choice. Some of these jets could be put in storage to save operating cost. But we need to have them in the country, with pilots trained for unexpected scenario. Who expected Donald Trump to threaten Nigeria , or Netanyahu to verbally attack Nigeria? Nobody expected these things, and that is why you must prepare for any eventuality. The NAF with a handful of fighter jets is a problem for Nigeria's national Defence. Gen. Musa needs to solve that problem for the NAF. I want Gen. Musa to take decisive actions to implement our M-TRACON, Upgrade the NAF, and solve our porous border problems. Only then would he become the best Defence minister we ever had. For now, he lacks direction. |
