Yes, if horses are wishes, beggars too will ride.

If government makes it a grant definitely it would become political and the right people will not get it.

Just look at Student Bursary from your state, how many students get it? It's political and as such it'll never get to the real people.

Therefore, it remains a loan to those who couldn't finance their education. It's not for everyone but those who are faced with challenges of funding their education.

I'm told that the loan has been extended to National Open University students too. This is a good development by the president and kudos to him.

I learnt that the loan is interest free and payable from two years after graduation if she gets a job.
What is the likelihood of getting a job in this APC extreme poverty shege economy of unknown unemployment rate?

Do you think that the Tinubu has destroyed the unemployment rate more than clueless Buhari, which is why he is hiding the statistics for the last 14 months huh

Nigeria’s ‘Biggest Economic Threat’ Is Unemployment, But Data to Guide Policy Missing for 14 Months

Nigeria’s top economic risk for the 2026 economic year is unemployment but the country has not published any official labour statistics to measure its rate since November 2024, FIJ has found.

On Wednesday, the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report identified lack of economic opportunity and unemployment as Nigeria’s leading threat for the 2026 economic year.

The report also identified inadequate public services, economic downturn, inequality, and crime as the next four threats to economic stability in 2026.

Unemployment is serious enough for international observers but the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has not released Nigeria’s Labour Force statistics, however controversial, since the second quarter of 2024.

SILENCE SINCE METHODOLOGY REDESIGN

The NBS has been in the crossfire before for publishing Labour Force Data late in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, the bureau attributed the delay to an overhaul of its survey methodology.

At the time, NBS said it wanted to align Nigeria’s labour statistics with international best practices and ensure data quality and sustainability.

But the resulting data caused chaos. According to the NFLS published at that time (q1, 2024), only about 4.3% of Nigerians were unemployed. The data introduced new types of labour categorisation in the report.

Per the new method, anyone who works even minimal hours in a week is considered “employed”. The reliability of official figures was questioned by labour unions, business groups and even economists.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), for instance, described the reported employment statistics as unrealistic. Chris Onyeka, the NLC’s National Assistant General Secretary, called the report a “voodoo document” and a “fabrication designed to mislead the public”.

Similarly, Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), said, “The technical improvement in the employment rate is more of a way that employment is now calculated; but the reality is that the economy is not looking like an economy where unemployment is significantly reducing.”

Since then, the NBS has not made any attempt to publish labour data.

Why are Peter Obi supporters crying because of this?

If I don’t have money to attend university and I see someone borrow me money free of interest and told me to repay him bit by bit after I get a job. Is that not worthy enough to thank them?

Would you rather I remain uneducated and unexposed?
Few years ago even a woman selling Akara could easily send her child to a federal university because it was very affordable , now people have to take loans from government to attend same federal university and you guys are seeing that as an achievement?

Most tertiary institutions in the country have hiked their fees by over 150 %, putting serious strains on the finances of parents and guardians who also have to contend with the poor state of the economy which has reduced purchasing power and savings.

Checks by Vanguard Learning in public universities across the country show that the increment in obligatory fees, which started late last year is continuing, as a new session starts in some schools this January.

Only on January 6, this year, for instance, the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, Ondo State came out with a proposal to hike fees by over 100%.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.

He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’

I want to ask you if the education you got in the university was to make you a dependant or independent?

Did you study Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba language?

Poor you if you study to become a dependant. The society expects you to be a job creator. Think outside the box and get some entrepreneurship. I'm into soap making since I lost my job and I'm doing better than my colleagues that I left in that company.

SixSeven:
I can call myself a graduate today because of Tinubu NELFUND ❤️👏

and if this post dey vex you, make you go K1ck the Bucket.

1. Are you sure this person went to school or went through schoolhuh

2. To be a graduate of a university, you must be found worthy both in learning and character. This person does not show the character of a graduate who was properly schooled.

3. If they think kicking the bucket will rile people up, it won't. It will even do more damage to a president whose education credentials is in doubt. It sounds like the charging of grab it, snatch it and run away with it. These kind of rhetoric does not normally come from people who are found worthy both in learning and character. You make it worse for the president if this was supposed to be a political post.

4. Because this person's education is in doubt, may I educate them that it's not Tinubu's NELFUND. It's FGN's NELFUND. The money is not Tinubu's, it belongs to the Federal government of Nigeria. If you want to be politically correct, you can say the Tinubu Government's NELFUND since he is the president. The moment he leaves, it reminds you that it's not his own, it's for the government.

That is a lie. There was no point when people selling Akara are able to afford university education easily with all the upkeep for their kids without borrowing loans or other external sources.

Even teachers cannot afford it easily to send their kids to universities without taking loan. I’m from a civil servant family and I understand what I am saying.

just go find skill (cos jobs no even dey) to pay back the loan.

Imagine say you take loan to go school, and no job after the school to even pay back the loan. At the end of the day, na skill and handiwork na him you come take use pay the loan back. E nor better say you bone the school, learn skill from the beginning.

See jobless graduates loitering and rotting as I drive by the streets everyday. So sad.

Guy Wetin nao.

In 2008, there was a massive protest in UI on school fees coz people can’t afford.

Acceptance fee alone in UI was #5000 in 2007 . Minimum wage was roughly #5500 then and some governors are not even paying that. How then do you think an ordinary average akara seller will afford it when even civil servant will have to borrow?

That’s not school fees oo, acceptance fees alone.

Most of you just come online like Nigeria was like USA back then and suddenly turned to Afghanistan now.

When looking at prices, you factor in income too. Think smart.

Read my comment well I placed emphasis on a child, if you were paying fees for more than one child then you'd definitely be needing a loan, but the fact is fees in public schools were really affordable, there was a time uniben's tuition was 11k for an academic session, so yes, even a woman selling Akara who has been saving can easily pay that!
