Today, the EFCC has just recovered a whopping ₦1.27 billion from the businessman, Olasijibomi Ogundele, and handed it over to the Enugu State Government after first declaring him wanted and obtaining a court order to detain him.

Have you noticed that nobody has raised any ethnic sentiments? Not a single person.

But the minute the EFCC goes after a high-profile politician, businessman, or celebrity, who is not from the President's ethnic nationality, everybody will rise and shout that such a person is being persecuted because of his ethnicity.

Why isn't Olasijibomi Ogundele being persecuted for his ethnicity?

Listen, for Nigeria to progress as a nation, we must downplay ethnicity and promote objectivity.

If anyone is being prosecuted by the EFCC, the only argument in their defence from the dramatis personae and their supporters must be that they are innocent, not that they are being punished because they are from such and such a place or belong to this or that opposition party.

Lol. Ambassador Reno with the ethnic baiting again. Governor Mbah should rather be commended for trusting a Yoruba contractor who ended up defrauding the state. What Nigerians are saying is that none of the former ministers of Buhari from the Southwest are currently being persecuted. Also all other politicians with EFCC cases who subsequently defected to the APC have more or less being pardoned and some have even bagged appointments.

The paid online rodents come in many flavours, each with its own rehearsed routine. When several positive stories about Nigeria hit the front page at once, they suddenly discover their inner media critics and begin screaming that Nairaland has turned into an APC campaign office. But the moment an unpleasant report appears in the same space, Nairaland is magically restored as the gold standard of journalism.

This particular story should probably be buried quickly, before they begin chanting the familiar hymn that Tinubu has “bought” the entire internet. Take the report that a 50kg bag of rice now sells for N55k in Abuja, proudly displayed on the front page. Immediately, the chorus begins: “It’s not really cheaper; that’s not the price GEJ left it.”

Curiously, these sudden historians never remembered to discuss rice prices during Abacha’s era.

Everyone is going about their normal businesses, an Agbadorian suddenly raises an ethnic sentiment and forces it into everyone’s consciousness.

This Tinubu bankrolled miscreant must bring ethnicity into it all.

First of all, this paid miscreant should applauded the Igbo governor that went overboard to give a yoruba man such a huge contract which the criminal decided to run away with the contract money.

Next he should thank the rest of the Igbo tribe who did not conclude it is a general yoruba thing to defraud people of their hard earned money.

Just for a minute imagine that Lagos or Oyo State government is prosecuting a Developer from Anambra or Enugu for delivering substandard contracts.

Anyone disputing what Reno just said is being economical with the truth.

In Nigeria, instead of examining whether or not an accused person actually committed the offense for which he/she is being prosecuted, we resort to the stale habit of whipping up ethnic, religious or partisan sentiments.

The politicians know this is a flaw in our character and are quick to exploit it to their advantage.

The gullible members of the public would tell you xyz is being persecuted because he/she comes from a particular tribe, religion or political party.

This is how we roll!
