The Awujale Kingmakers Council has announced the cancellation of a planned meet-and-greet earlier scheduled to be held at the Aafin Awujale, directing instead that Awujale nominees report to the Department of State Services office in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday by 11 am.

This was contained in a formal communication dated January 20, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi; his deputy, Otunba Dokun Ajidagba; and the Vice Chairman, Prof. Fassy Yusuf.

According to the notice, all Awujale nominees are required to present themselves at the DSS office located along NTA Road, beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, off Igbeba Road, Ijebu-Ode, by 11:00 a.m. prompt.

The council stated that the decision led to the cancellation of the earlier engagement at the Aafin Awujale and expressed regret for any inconvenience the sudden change may cause.

The letter, signed by the Secretary of the Awujale Afobaje Council, Chief Ayotunde Ola Odulaja, urged all concerned nominees to comply strictly with the directive and ensure punctuality.

The development is coming amid ongoing traditional processes surrounding Awujale-related nominations in Ijebuland. Further details on the outcome of the DSS engagement were not disclosed at the time of filing this report.

The letter partly reads “We write to formally inform you that the meet-and-greet earlier scheduled for this morning at the Aafin Awujale has been cancelled.

“Accordingly, the Awujale nominees are hereby directed to report to the Department of State Services (DSS) office located at State Security Service (SSS) Along NTA Road, Beside the State Psychiatric Hospital, Off Igbeba Road,
Ijebu-Ode. Time: 11:00 a.m. prompt.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this change may cause. Kindly ensure that all concerned nominees are punctual and comply strictly with this directive.”

Honestly, It is very sadden especially for someone like me who is from Ijebu ode. It has been politicised and bastardised

So common DSS have power to summon them. Something that is unheard of is now embraced.
It's like saying DSS summons sultanate nominees, emir nominees, Alaafin nominees.

We don’t want any future embarrassment where the King would be sentence to prison in a foreign land when he travels there. We also don’t want a King whose close friends are of questionable character.

So unfortunate... Though, It's the modernity of the civilisation of the current times that's made such moves/summons more required!

They did not bastardize anything and it’s even better that way,so that their past records cannne properly checked and investigated.
Anyone of them with uncleaned past record should back out

In as much as this is a welcome development, to fish out majority of our elite king, who have been involving themselves in yahoo scam, we have seen how many kings have been jailed from scams abroad...

Can the checks and investigations only be carried out when they physically present themselves at the DSS office after being summoned like schoolboys? Do other aspiring monarchs from other regions undergo these physical checks and investigations? It's a form of conquest but you can't even see it for what it is.

Sincerely speaking I am in full support of this procedure of choosing the King no stone should be left unturn so that in future the elected King will not have criminal issue with other country or DSS that will disgrace we yorubas because we're truly Omoluabi

They knew he has the connections that can make him the king once he's allowed to be among the nominees, the president and governor. The only way to stop him is preventing him to be shortlisted. Simple as ABC

He has told them his family house, name and everything. If they disagree, they should tell us where he comes from. It is now on them to prove him wrong. It is all politics

King Ganusi (aka kwam zero) orchestrated all these antics through his actions. The man is unaware of his father or his true origins, yet he believed it was acceptable to be crowned in the land of his stepfather.

Most of you are dumb with pride online..it is one one of the functions of the DSS to vet anyone that will hold power in Nigeria..be it conventional or traditional...Awujale of Ijebu will at a time get in contact with sensitive information..such nominee is to be vetted to ensure that they don't have contacts that can sabotage them from within or that the future Awujale will not be a tool himself... you are even directing Ijebu sons and daughter to protest...I hope you're arrested
