Traffic Gridlock As Truck Overturns On Otedola Bridge by cityboylagos(op): 8:55am On Jan 23
Severe traffic congestion hit the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Friday following the overturning of a fully loaded truck on Otedola Bridge, Lagos.

The incident resulted in a massive gridlock, stretching from Otedola Bridge to Berger, as motorists heading into Lagos were left stranded with limited alternative routes. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the development in a post on its official Facebook page, noting that the accident triggered a secondary crash behind the initial incident.

“In the first incident, a fully loaded truck overturned, spilling its consignments onto the road and covering about 90 per cent of the carriageway. The second accident occurred directly behind the first crash, compounding traffic disruption in the area,” the RRS stated.

Emergency responders were immediately alerted, while motorists were advised to exercise caution when approaching the area.

Confirming the situation, Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), said traffic officers were already on the ground to manage vehicular movement and assist with rescue and recovery operations.

Efforts were ongoing to clear the overturned truck and spilled cargo to restore free flow of traffic on the affected section of the expressway.

Is it the sloppy nature of the bridge that often cause accident or what!??..so bad🥲 a year cannot pass without major incident happening around the bridge...and the annoying part is the traffic that will extend almost back to oworo 💔..it's well..

Not the bridge, but sloppy nature of the road connecting the bridge....The road is very good but drivers speed on the slope causes most accidents

Why cant the govt install speed breakers if speed is the cause of these numerous accidents on the bridge?

You are right. The bridge is sloppy. It’s like running into a valley and quickly trying to run out again. It tends to ‘curve’ long vehicles.

Vehicles with bad center of gravity and are heavily loaded can always crrassh there.

They did shoddy job when constructing that road in the late 70s and early 80s. They ought to have raised the bridges’ piles up to level with at least where Japaul/Mobil building is. Like wise, on Berger side, the bridge should have started from Fatgbems/Capital Oil.

Assuming Ogun State government has made at least one tolled alternative road from around Ibafo-Magboro straight down to Ijoko, lots of traffics going towards Sango, Idi-Iroko, Agbado etc, would have diverted and free up Berger area.

Likewise, assuming Ogun/Lagos State governments have jointly constructed another tolled alternative road from around Magboro-Arepo towards Owode-Oni’rin, Agric, and Ikorodu, that Berger area would have been more safer and free because a lot of vehicles going to Mile 12/Ikorodu axis don’t have anything to do entering Lagos from Berger.

You can imagine that from Shagamu interchange to Berger, there’s no single known motor-able road that links those towns on Ijebu and Egba axis of Lagos-Ibadan.
The one constructed in Mowe only heads back to Shagamu-Papalanto Road.

Government can still manage to construct those interlinks, even though most land on those areas have been bought by religious bodies and factories.

There is nothing wrong with that bridge as most of the accident especially with long Trucks are caused by human factors. Why does the accidents only occurs at night or early morning?Simple, the Drivers are Tired and should rest.Another factor is how many of those drivers especially the Abokis among them are tested and duly certify by any body before they become Long Haul drivers, they all started as "motor boy" and became"oga driver",Some even drive under the influence of alchohol and Drugs
Until we take the value of human life serious in Nigeria, things like this will continue to happen

You're very right.. especially ikorodu after laspotech links directly to ijebu ode which d government can harness to discongest entry and going out of Lagos through Berger...
Also the structure(down hill) of the bridge supposed to be work on due to the strategic location of the bridge..imagine just that otedola bridge, you can link, CMD road, ojodu, alausa, omole phase 2, alapere, and so on.. unfortunately long vehicles are mostly affected causing more damages..
Maybe long vehicles should be redirected to ijebu ode to ikorudu road for the safety of smaller vehicles.. pending when their will be synergy between Lagos and ogun state government in creating more options..but even if Lagos state is ready which I'm most certainly sure they are, I doubt the readiness of ogun state government because they are so sluggish in providing good roads and social amenities 💔..so sad to have a terrible ogun state government..

Hmmmm but looking @ the impact on the vehicle what does that tells you, most accidents that happened was caused by human error, mechanical factor, environmental factor etc are minimal even if tyre burst & the car is still moving on safe speed the impact will not be that much
