21 Kano Lawmakers, 8 Reps, 44 Chairmen Pledge Loyalty To Gov Yusuf, Quit NNPP by Newsgeek24(op): 6:17pm On Jan 23

Kano State Governor Abba K Yusuf resigned today along with 21 members of the State Assembly, 8 members of the House of Representatives, and 44 Local Government Chairmen of Kano State.

The Governor, through a letter to the Chairman of the Diso-Chiranchi Ward, NNPP, in Gwale Local Government Area, formally announced his intention to leave the party, effective from Friday, January 23, 2026.

The latter reads: “I write with a deep sense of gratitude to formally notify the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) of my decision to resign my membership of the party, with effect from Sunday, 25 January 2026.

“I remain sincerely appreciative of the opportunity given to me by the party, its leadership, and members across Kano State to be part of its political journey since 2022, as well as the support, goodwill, and cooperation extended to me during my time in the party.

“In recent times, the party has been confronted with persistent internal challenges arising from leadership disagreements and ongoing legal processes, many of which are presently before the courts for judicial determination.

“The growing disenfranchisement among party members has created deep divisions within the party structure, resulting in cracks that appear increasingly irreconcilable and have generated uncertainty at both state and national levels.

“After careful reflection, and without prejudice to the party’s capacity to resolve its internal challenges, I have come to the conclusion that my resignation is in the best interest of the people of Kano State.

“This decision is taken in good faith, without any ill will, and with a continued commitment to peace, unity, and the progress of Kano State.”

What is happening between atiku and obi supporters i just dey laugh one says obi or nothing the other atiku or tinubu continue is like 2023 lesson una never learn am finish one thing is certain if tinubu wins na obi supporters go suffer attack pass from Apc supporters so u people should think election is fast approaching my best bet is Atikuobi or obikwanso anything other that those kombo na sara sapaa tinubu na old taker for politics en say bi the game

Nigerian government appears to be a coven of people locked up in an enclave to plunder the common wealth of the people and they are doing it with no serious opposition. Some have been deceived to believe that it will favour them or that they are being cared for. But they are going to get the greatest shock of their lives at the appointed time.

I'm not against the governor or anyone moving but why will the governor movement automatically been the legislator must follow suit

Wait o... look at the dates. He resigned on the 23rd but the letter says effective 25th? This is a strategic move to block any impeachment process before they officially move to their new party. The "Supreme Court Governor" knows the law. This is a masterstroke or a suicide mission. We shall see.

APC is getting stronger and the opposition that we expect to give viable opposition is busy with internal politics..

We are all witnessing the build up to 2027 general elections....as things stands now, without emotions or sentiments..do we really think the opposition is ready as at today huh

The resounding answer is NO.

I hope at the coming weeks, sound reasoning will prevail, they will drop their selfish interests for a common goal and align with a sellable candidate that can defeat the incumbent.

As things stands as at today...APC wins in 2027

He either come onboard or lose his bargaining chip.

Don't forget, even when he was on the ballot, Tinubu still got 500,000 votes in Kano.

He has no choice than to start bargaining from a losing position.

Ganduje is there for him to cotend with anyways.

Head or tail, Tinubu still maintain his 500,000 votes.

Nobody forced them to move. They moved willingly because they saw a good reason to move. Freedom of association is a fundamental human right enshrined in the constitution.

Lol. He's not coming onboard but you can keep the Temu Kwankwaso. The results will show come 2027. Some of those defectors were mere cobblers in Kano but won election under the a kwankwassiya wave.

They are now defecting to go get automatic tickets in the APC. Meanwhile, Ganduje and Barau that has been building the party with their sweat, tears and blood are now left holding the short end of the stick.

Despite you make a bit of sense but you spoiled it all mentioning obi.

Nwanem stop dreaming impossibility we have said it so many time we will never allow obi to rule Nigeria, say it anyway anyhow, combo anyway combo anyhow Aso Rock obi will never enter it as president infact obi will only rule Nigeria in his grave.

You mention Tinubu is old ba? What is atiku age? Obi is 65 and Tinubu 71 pls what is the different 65 from 71? I have told you all if we are looking for younger president then we all go for Sowore, imomulen, Kachukwu, Ribadu and anybody above 55 is disqualify and that will only stand in 2031 not 2027. APC needs just 2% votes in the south east and and states ruled by any other party. While ADC are still yet to have a solid ground as of this day in 2026 and APC is taking over almost all states then know that APC will definitely win the election with such a wide margin ever recorded in the history of Nigeria.

However I think the only party that can still pull some weight at this point is PDP and that's if they can put their house in order and just surprise Nigerians with one strong candidate that people will love so much.

In pure reality, it is very impossible for Atiku or Obi to defeat APC in an election. Tinubu did it when he was not even power talk more of now he is in power and has colonized almost all states into his party.
