Neoteny:
They think war is like movies and video games.

99% of real battles you don't even see the enemy, you don't know exactly how far away they're, or their weapon types, etc. You just return fire in the general direction of the incoming rounds, keep your heads low, and maneuver tactically out of the killbox if ambushed.

In this video, the soldiers are sending out suppressing fire just like you said, until the suicide bomber flanking from the right disoriented them.

Shame there's apparently no air cover for them or artillery and radios, as all commucation seems like shouted commands and pleadings not to retreat.

I've seen worse firefights in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Lol!!! Just say the ragtag army of your country! Modern warfare has eyes on the target and know how many guns they are advancing !! Even the soldiers knows...

don't mind them, they thought we're fools. This is just acting. During intense battle, no one will be bold video like that and no trained soldier would stand like that as if he's immune to bullets. Our soldiers are trying but this look like acting or training ground without real bullets
It's not an actual battle but like a simulation going on.

It is not often that a Nigerian soldier is able to capture a firefight involving infantry, tanks and major firepower, so when this video clip arrived in my news feed, I had to share it on the Nairaland forum for the viewing pleasure of my fellow armchair generals in the house. If you listen carefully you will hear the whistle of incoming rounds whipping past the cameraman's head as he bravely records the chaotic firefight.

Sit back, and enjoy the fireworks, but while you see the brave men of the Nigerian army lock horns with a determined and well funded enemy, remember that this is no movie, and that when the smoke clears, a few Nigerian soldiers will have paid the ultimate price, and thus made the ultimate sacrifice for their fatherland.

This doesn't look like a well trained and disciplined unit. What is the strategy here? ...I can understand the constant firing to pin down the enemy but aren't the soldiers supposed to be advancing at the same time? ...laying low? ...crawling or ducking and running in some formation? How can they be just running around standing tall? ..the commander or whatever shouting and addressing his men as "gentlemen"? What is the tastic here? Self preservation doesn't seem to be a priority here. I expected better of them.

I have seen the video and it proves nothing tangible except that ammunitions are being expended. The soldiers are being commanded to advance toward nothing in particalar within sight. No bulletproof on them shows they just taking silly risk of higher firepower if any terrorist exists on the other side.

Another puzzling issue is, who recorded such a clip if not a deliberately orchestrated leak from NSA to score political points?

We saw someone dismissed from military for same offense just a weak ago. Lol

In this war situation, what should have been the roles of the Airforce?
Our Airforce seems incapable of supporting the ground force. So sad.

yes I know but can you stand in the middle of guns? As a trained military personnel?
To that seems like just some intense training, all the fire power were not directed or aiming it was just all over, during the explosion that caused dust, yelling suicide bomber 😂😂
You mean to tell me he go to the rear and exploded
That was not flanking
The military detonated that themselves

That tank commander should have been taking cover. Too much yanga will get a soldier killed fast. Bullets were thick in the air, and he was strolling around as though on a weekend pleasure walk.
That's the only way to motivate the Soldiers as their commander. If not the Soldiers for don retreat and run. That will give the enemies chance to take over the Military Camp

In every unit of our security forces you will surely have one or 2 persons like that in such unit. The late ASP Danlami Usman (danzuru) of mopol 13 pmf is one good example of such people....... I know some of you will say it was guts that got him walking casually like that but trust me there's a lot y'all don't know about Muyen.

I'm not a military expert, but just wondering if this ground offensive would have been better if our air power had been used before this.

We need to weaken the enemy & gather intelligence before any ground offensive.

This is AI age 2026

The man showed zero fear under serious sustained incoming fire. This is the kind of war hero that will earn a chest-full of valor medals later on.

This is so frightening to watch. We need help to defeat this rag tag group, them are determined to get victory over our gallant forces. May the soul of the officers who pay the ultimate price rest in peace.

THEY SHOULD NOT FIGHT TERRORISTS, THEY SHOULD PARDON THEM , GIVE THEM MONEY MARRY WIVES FOR THEM AND INTEGRATE THEM INTO THE ARMY AND GOVERNMENT . GIVE THEM AMNESTY AND SEND THEM ABROAD. USELESS IDIOTS IN GOVERNMENT. A SICK NATION
Re: Ferocious Battle Footage From Sambisa Forest War Front by dc23(m): 10:18am On Jan 24
Clearly he knows it's a training video. Check the firing positions arranged in circular pattern. And not one enemy bullet managed to hit all the big machines and equipment sitting out there to make a metallic sound

My question is, was this guy employed in the army as a media man in the battle field or a combatant? I thought he should be taking cover and engaging the enemy in such a scenario, that's why body cams were created.

Terrorist sympathizer, so you think gun battle is what you watch in American movies.

Your perception might have a shred of plausibility were it not for the suicide bomber that blew himself up and destabilized the camera man. Even without the suicide bomber, the chaotic disarray in this clip, along with the distant pop and whine of incoming shots, are among the telling indications that this video clip depicts the real deal. Life and death in an instant war.

evidence of a one way traffic with no casualties or realtime combat that shows both sides aerial-wise. Dont you watch Ukraine Russia conflict?

Or Israel Hamas?
Re: Ferocious Battle Footage From Sambisa Forest War Front by JimD(m): 10:27am On Jan 24
There is little coordination here. Too much waste of bullets. Although in guerilla warfare, tactics fly out the window. This is the kind of situation where you need F1 bombers, then ground troops move in to finish the job. Nigeria needs to invest in it's defence.

May God bless the Nigerian army those fighting and those who have paid the ultimate price securing Nigeria. Any one sponsoring insurgency will die painful death. This is so scary what the army pass thru on daily. Drones deployment would have really helped in this very combat
That suicide bomber would have been caught b4 approaching

It's kinda whack clip. They are all stationary with their trucks as if they're defending a base.

I was expecting an offensive not a bunch of military guys standing at a distance shooting 100s of bullets randomly into the distance.

Great fire power display by the Nigerian Army but there were no shouts of weyooo Allah weyooo Allah and the simple meaning is that the bullets didn't hit any terrorist / terrorists and none of them was killed. Muslims shouts weyooo Allah while dying, with no shouts of it, they might have just acted a movie show.
