Dakingari Not On Ambassadorial List Confirmed By Senate by Pakute(op): 5:10pm On Jan 24
The presidency had on Thursday evening announced the posting of four ambassador-designates, among whom was Dakingari, saying the appointments were made “out of the 68 confirmed by the Senate last December”.

Kayode Are, former director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), was appointed Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to the United States.

Ayodele Oke, former director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), was posted to France; Amin Dalhatu, former ambassador to South Korea.

However, the presidency withdrew Dakingari’s posting barely 24 hours after the announcement.

The withdrawal raised questions about how a name not confirmed by the senate could be presented as part of the list.

Under the constitution, the senate confirms ambassadorial nominees submitted by the president by name, not by vacancy or post-confirmation substitution.

Once confirmation is concluded, the list of approved nominees is deemed final.

However, the presidency’s statement suggests that Dakingari’s posting flows from the senate’s confirmation exercise.

The list transmitted to the senate by President Bola Tinubu in December was screened, debated and approved by the upper chamber.

That list comprised 34 career ambassadorial nominees, 31 non-career nominees and three earlier cleared names.

The confirmed career nominees included Abubakar Musa Musa and Mohammed Idris, who are both from Kebbi state.

However, the non-career nominees from Kebbi were not listed among the confirmed names.

Dakingari’s name did not appear on the list acted upon by the senate.

Thirty-four of the confirmed nominees are career ambassadors, while 30 are non-career ambassadors.

The development has sparked concerns about legislative legitimacy and the integrity of official records.

Observers say the issue is not about the timing or destination of postings, but whether senate confirmation is being misrepresented.

So how did his name make it to the list? This has happened too often for Nigerians to not get any form of accountability about it. Is Gbajabiamila really still the chief of staff?

In other news, Jagora Kwankwaso has kicked off his campaign against Tinubu in Kano. Tinubu may not get half the votes he got in Kano in 2023, if Kwankwaso maintains this betrayal narrative.

Why?, What happened?. Why were career nominees from Kebbi state all confirmed by the Senate while all non-career nominees from the same state were not in the final Senate list?.
Was it a legislative omission or a clerical negligence?. All non-career nominees from a state were missing?. This has to be investigated.

Bro, wake up, Kwankwaso is clowning 🤡. Who commemorated his own defection when he was Governor of Kano?. He himself is ready to dump NNPP to another party that would offer him a VP slot, so why being mad at others who have dumped NNPP?. As a matter of fact, dumping NNPP does not necessarily mean dumping Kwankwansiyya.

A former Governor of Kano, Shekarau has this to say
“I listened to some of my brother Kwankwaso’s remarks. To me, Kwankwaso has either forgotten what happened in the past or he thought people have forgotten,” Shekarau said.

He recalled that Kwankwaso defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his tenure as Kano State governor without vacating the governorship seat.

“When he was in PDP, he left with the governorship seat to APC. Why didn’t he drop it for PDP? The way he took PDP’s seat to APC is likely the same way Abba will take the NNPP seat to APC,” he added.

“In life, one chooses for himself. If you have tangible reasons and the people you are with are okay with it, that is all,” he said.

He concluded that Governor Yusuf should be allowed to make his choice without being demonised, noting that Kwankwaso himself had defected severally — from the PDP to APC, back to PDP, and later to the NNPP.

[b]“If Abba has his own reasons and those around him agree, I don’t see any betrayal here,” Shekarau added.
Kwankwaso should park it up and stop sulking like a baby.

Very haphazard government.

Convince me how people who can’t get a simple thing as posting an Ambassador right will properly handle even bigger tasks.

And they swore Tinubu works with best brains.

So, this is the best that his best brains can produce?

Shame!

Is that how you equally expect 200 million Nigerians to protest at the NASS for the criminal alteration of the tax bill that they passed after harmonisation huh

We’ve Confirmed Alterations In Gazetted Tax Laws – Reps Panel

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has confirmed that some of Nigeria’s recently gazetted tax laws were illegally altered after being passed by the National Assembly and assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This was disclosed in an interim report of the Minority Caucus Ad-hoc Committee on Tax Laws, set up to investigate allegations of discrepancies between the tax reform Acts passed by the legislature and the versions published in the official gazette.
>>>>
>>>>>
The report revealed that at least three different versions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act were in circulation, while the directive to “align” the Acts with the Federal Government Printing Press pointed to “procedural anomalies” that illegally encroached on the legislative powers of the National Assembly.

Among the contentious alterations identified was Section 29 (1 ) of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, where reporting thresholds were lowered in the gazetted version from N50 million to N25 million for individuals and from N250 million to N100 million for companies, contrary to what was passed by the legislature.

The committee also flagged the introduction of new subsections 41( 8 ) and 41(9) in the gazetted Act, mandating taxpayers to deposit 20 per cent of disputed tax amounts before appealing decisions of the Tax Appeal Tribunal—provisions which, it said, were absent from the authentic version passed by the National Assembly.

Other discrepancies include expanded enforcement powers under Section 64, granting tax authorities powers of arrest and asset sale without court orders; alterations to the definition of federal taxes under Section 3(1)(b), which removed petroleum income tax and VAT; and changes to Section 39(3), mandating tax computations for petroleum operations in US dollars instead of the currency of transaction.

In the National Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, the committee observed that oversight provisions empowering the National Assembly to summon officials and demand quarterly and annual reports were deleted in the gazetted version, a move it described as a violation of the doctrine of checks and balances.

Given the “anomalies, illegalities and impunity” uncovered, the committee said the evidence so far warranted a deeper investigation to ensure accountability for what it described as an affront against the legislature and Nigeria’s democracy.

Any idea why he has not yet resigned if he is not in charge of HIS own government, as you claim?

Why did he fight for power, grabbing it and running with it when he is not in charge of his government? What is the logic behind this reasoning huh

Did you allow him to be president, just so he can tax the heck out of Nigerians, for the sake of going to snap pictures of having lunch in France with the Rwandan president who was simultaneously enjoying new year festivities in his own country?
