It’s both public and private. Everyone earning less than 7 figures monthly got reduced taxes & saw an increase in salary compared to previous months.

I think it's a benefit for low earners, but as for me, it didn't reduce; it went up. My PAYE for January was 184000.

This is true.

Nigerians realized on twitter that the whole propaganda was indeed propaganda. January salary entered their accounts and their salaries increased due to lower taxes.

Exactly what this tax guy said was going to happen. The new tax laws reduces taxes for like 90% of Nigerian workers.
Any idea why Tinubu and Oshiomhole’s Assembly of Past Criminals, APC has failed to make N70 petrol happen in their 11 years of extreme poverty shege of galloping inflation huh

Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

Please when will everyone benefit from the N300/$1 Tinubu short term goal, which he has failed to achieve despite saving $84 billion from subsidy removal and borrowing $3.3 billion from Afreximbank to defend the Naira specifically, using SPV future oil revenues huh

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

If you have work and pay PAYE, you will not type trash. This is how you give yourself away.

That you don’t know that this is a pragmatic way that government use to put money in workers' pockets shows that you are ignorant about this subject.

You the ignoramus here... how does tax put money in workers pocket.. tax is a deduction .... it can never add money to you salary..

The increment ranged from N400 to N5,000.And not everyone got an increase. Some persons actually had reduced net salaries ranging between N700 to N2,500.

While it is OK that there were increases, how impacful or significant where those increases? If cost of living goes up by 700%, what is a savings of 2%-5% going to really do?

And to those trying to make it seem as if some Nigerians were against the revised income tax, that was not the reality. The argument was that it was not far reaching enough in view of the economic damage done by bat.

Why increase the base tax to 15% if you really want to help the poor? Why not leave it at 7%?

Given the economic realities, the exemption threshold should have started at around N2m and at 7%.

These are the real issues.
That is exactly what I was saying late last year.
The minimum wage is a whooping N720,000 pa. And the tax threshold is N700,000. So N20,000 out of that huge wage is taxable. Is this how the poor benefits.

This is a minimum wage of N2,800 per working day that is internationally equivalent to N350 per hour or 24 cents per hour when the UN poverty threshold is defined at $3 a day or N4,350 or N109,000 per month.

So how does a government that claims it's taxation policy favours the poor aims to tax a person earning 24 cents per hour. How...

Nope, you won't pay tax if you are on minimum wage, you have to make provision for allowance, eg housing that was placed on 300k or so, if you deduct that, then no taxable income to be charged

And in all democracies in the world issues of taxation are purely political. The decisions of what to tax, how much to tax, etc.

Why is it that in this country the face of this taxation drive is a bureaucrat, a civil servant and not the politicians themselves.

In other words they hide behind the civil service to explain and entreat so that is costs them nothing in political capital. But when the resources are gathered it is not the civil servant that decides how to spend it. It is the politician the money is sent to, to spend as the wish.

The APC government should come out with it's facts and figures and sell this policy to Nigerians face to face and receive the necessary feedback to make it succeed.

It is the Minister of Finance that should be doing this not Mr. Oyedele who is not accountable to the public, hence no one regards what he says.

So what is the REAL or IMAGINED threshold.
I have heard al these explanations about housing, medical insurance, etc.

So what in naira and kobo is the threshold of this tax policy. Can tax experts say.

And of course you and I don't expect a person earning N720,000 pa to live in a house costing N300,000 pa. But when you bring real life housing bills into the equation I doubt it if anyone should pay tax.

The whole import of my submission is that this policy is so out of touch with the economic realities of this country and that is why I say, the facts of this drive should be from the politicians that faced the people in the 2023 campaign and will face them against in next year's campaign. They should not hide behind the civil service to manage it.

The politicians should tell the people exactly what they are doing and what they aim to achieve. It is that simple. My Oyedele should take a back seat and let his boss tell us that out paychecks are healthier.

Irrespective of the cost of your accommodation, before you might be able to pay anything in tax, your salary must be about 1.2m or more.

When you earn a pay raise, increase your savings and investments. Don't increase your wardrobe and lifestyle f or number of sexual partners. It's poor people who do that.

The tax reduced by around 2k. But I think its not sincere for them to be saying people are going home with higher salary. Yes, its true on paper but that shouldn't even be mentioned as an increment. People paying tax of almost 200k and having a relief of 5k have their salary increased by less than 0.5% at the end of the day. Is that an increment?
