A Nigerian woman has raised alarm over the growing influence of Yahoo culture in the country, describing it as one of the nation’s biggest societal challenges.

In a viral social media video, the woman highlighted the pervasive negative impact of Yahoo activities on youths, lifestyles, and Nigeria’s future. She noted that while a few individuals profit from online fraud, the broader consequences are far-reaching and damaging. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to her, Yahoo culture has led many young men to substance abuse, as drugs are often used to stay alert, survive, or sustain their online hustles.

“Yahoo has made a lot of people purposeless. Many youths are unaware of politics or governance, yet this controls their daily lives,” she said.

The woman further pointed out that Yahoo fosters a culture of entitlement, particularly among some young women who treat unearned money as disposable.

“If you’re doing Yahoo, it’s time to stop. Discover your talent, find a business you can manage properly,” she urged.

She also contrasted today’s youth with previous generations, noting that profits from 419 and other hustles used to be invested into legitimate businesses, while many of today’s young people prioritize instant lifestyles without long-term planning.

“Many of us today just want the lifestyle, copying others, but without investment. That’s why Yahoo is one of the major issues Nigerians are facing,” she added.

Yahoo boys life styles have influenced many aspect of our daily lives from renting house to clothing's etc which has cause inflation in some areas, towns and cities. You see that house rent part. An agent will just tell a landlord that wanted to rent an apartment for 400k to just hold on that a yahoo boy will pay 800k. They don't price they just pay. Such trend began some 7 years ago and that was the genesis of expensive houses today.

Just this morning I was discussing with my friend that Nigeria needs a value restoration; everything now centres around fraud (yahoo. Agba-yahoo aka politicians etc) wherein unearned profit are appropriated and spent for instant gratification like travelling.
