The Anambra State government has ordered traders in twelve additional markets to operate normally on Mondays, warning that failure to comply could lead to temporary market closures.

The move comes after the state shut down Onitsha Main Market for one week following traders’ refusal to open on Mondays, which the government said disrupted business activities.

The markets now required to open include Ochanja Central Market, Bridgehead Market, Ogbaru Main Market, Building Materials Market Ogidi, Agba-Edo Auto Spare Parts Market Nnewi, New Auto and Motorcycle Spare Parts Market Nnewi, Fairly Used Motorcycle Spare Parts Market Nnewi, New Auto Spare Parts Market Nkpor, Nkpor Main Market, Old Mercedes Benz Spare Parts Dealers Market Nkpor, Old Motor Spare Parts Market Obosi, and Electrical Dealers International Market, Obosi.

A circular titled “Abolishment of Monday Sit-at-Home,” signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, instructed market leaders to inform traders to resume full business on Mondays as directed by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

The government will carry out random inspections, and markets that fail to follow the order may be closed for up to one month.

Shops that remain closed risk being sealed, and owners may face legal consequences.

Governor Soludo has scheduled a meeting with market leaders for Thursday, January 29, at the International Convention Centre in Awka to discuss market operations and the Monday sit-at-home order.

Chairmen, secretaries, zonal leaders, and line chairpersons from markets across the state are expected to attend.

The government said the meeting was requested by some market leaders seeking the reopening of Onitsha Main Market, not as a reaction to traders’ protest earlier this week.

Security will be increased during the meeting to ensure it runs without disruption.

Does this man thinks he’s dealing with civil servants ?

There are some things you don’t get through threats, but through advice and supplications..

You don’t threaten self employed business men who are feeding from their hustle ..
He might end up escalating the situation if care is not taken.

As as I am talking to you, Souludo’s foolishness yesterday is metamorphosing to something else today in Onitsha..

He’s wasting his time.. Nigeria is not a communist State.. His approach is in this matter is senseless.. He’s not dealing with civil servants

The way some of you open mouth waaa! How are selfemployed business men holding the state ransom? Are the business men working for government?

Every sector is affected by the sit at home. Transporters don't operate, no school, banks don't open and his focus is on shops.

Soludo Dalu ‼️ even doe you should've done this since 2024, it's a welcome development and I'm happy you've extended the warning to other markets especially my Nkwo Nnewi market. All of them that have been brainwashed by Kanu must have their senses reset by Force.

Don't look at anybody's face and make sure you arrest and presucute any market leader still using kanu's detention as an excuse not to open their markets and also using fear of already defeated Ugm to close their markets

Enough is enough

Mechei Onu gi Itibolibo.

So you don't know that state governments are the owners of the markets in their states and those markets generate huge IGR for the states⁉️🤦🏿‍♂️

So he should continue allowing them to destroying the state revenue generating institutions because they are I love with scam secceccionists ⁉️

I don't blame you. Most of you are illiterates. That's why you can't reason properly. Government get their levies whether the shopowner opens 10 times in a year or 300 times a year.

What about schools? Do you have a child in Anambra that goes to school on Monday? You dey shout 'shop shop'. You are not interested in education.

The irony in all these is that Soludo is now enforcing sit at home.
Re: Full List: Soludo Bans Sit-at-home In 12 More Anambra Markets by oalandAgents2:
Soludo is going the wrong way about this;
His focus should be ensuring that markets are not locked on Mondays and providing enough security that traders cannot be intimidated by IPOB enforcers.
He should threaten to sack, arrest, prosecute the management of any market locked up on a business trading day.
After that he can then threaten fine or levy on any individual traders who willfully refuse open on Mondays for Sit At Home.
Failure to pay the fine or levy should result in the trader's eventual eviction from the market.
But I know Soludo is only about eye-service and paying lip-service, because he has been on this same issue for over 4 years.

Actually i do not agree with Nnamdi Kanu idealogies... and do not support sit-at-home practices whether on Mondays or any other day...

But my interactions with fellows from Anambra shows that apart from been intelligent... they seem to be die-hard fans of Nnamdi Kanu... so when he yawns they sneeze...

Other South East states have woken up from this dilemma ... For instance in Imo... offices and market open as usual... likewise intra-state transport is normal...

Since this is more of an ideological stereotyping.... not as though they do not want to do business on such days..... I advise Governor Soludo to manage this matter wisely...

Normally whenever I am in Anambra on such days... I go out and do business with those who opened their offices...

I would rather say that the better approaches to this issue are... reassuring the traders of their safety... engaging Christian leaders to discuss with their congregations... making special government purchases from businesses who open on such days...

To the energetic traders... pls open your shops so that customers who find it convenient on Mondays can travel to Anambra to make purchases..

And to Governor Soludo... kindly reconcile with the traders .. RENAISSANCE.

His problem has always been his endemic hubris.
Soludo always thinks he is the smartest in every room he enters in Nigeria.
He believes he is so versed in all topics, so renowned that he does not need any advice from no one.. You notice this with his alarming outburst. Remember how he was talking down on the APC candidate during the elections?

Another angle to it is his utter disdain for traders. Most educated Anambra leaders have little regards for these "noisy traders". They always exude this mentality. Even Akunyili couldn't stand the son of Marcel Pamaceuticals as a student at UNN. She will later mention this man's son and his activities at UNN as one of the issues that triggered her desperation to end bad drug menace in Nigeria..

The fact that most billionaires in Anambra are traders doesn't seem to sit well with a lot of Anambra academics. They won't mention that openly but you seldom see them helping out with policies to advance the cause of these traders..

I understand you but I understand him too
He is governor and needs to show he is in charge
Also if the government owns the market he has the right to do that
That makes him the landlord and he can make it a condition of tenancy

When you believe some nonsense you just roll with it despite overwhelming contrary evidence

Those so called academics don't gave brothers who are traders
None of them had fathers who were traders
When NAFDAC raided the market recently who advocated for them
I wonder how you define academic and where you place Peter Obi

Who said traders are not educated?

The market are owned by the government. The traders are just occupants. Soludo being the governor is the landlord where as the traders are just tenants.

The traders should just respect themselves. They can't win the government here. Everything no be gragra. Let them resume on Monday or their shops and the entire market will remain locked.

Supported. Until they finally get sense and resume on Monday as directed by the governor.

If umaahia people which is the home town of Nnamdi kanu is not observing Monday sit at home. Which should Onitsha people carry the sit at home for head ? Are they the only people in the South East that want Biafra ?

Common sense is not common.
Re: Full List: Soludo Bans Sit-at-home In 12 More Anambra Markets by KillahPriest: 6:29pm On Jan 28
Shutting down markets is upside down and backwards thinking. Have you as a government provided adequate security that can convince people to come out of their homes on monday ? You have terrorists with the capacity to exert maximum force, you've seen what they can and have been doing, your people are crying out yet instead of you to listen, you decided to force them to come out on that same monday instead of attacking all known hideouts of criminal elements and terrorists in Anambra state. WONDERFUL

I don't want to talk about Soludo's alleged threat to take over markets and stalls of traders who refused to open shops, he has worked decades in the financial sector and knows the folly in that decision. Anambra doesn't need threats, security is a cause and effect matter. Provide security, let it be seen that its provided and watch people come out by themselves

You sabi and you are full of wisdom.

As for me, Soludo must have a good reason to effect the ban. When he arrested akwa okuko etc , everyone saw the real reasons he took that decision, which has drastically reduce insecurity in Anambra.

Here in Enugu, our no nonsense Governor stopped the madness immediately he assumed office. They attacked his filling station twice, but is now past because, nobody remembers sit at home again in Enugu
