Actress Angela Okorie Remanded In Prison As Judge Adjourns Bail Application To January 30th....

Actress Angela Okorie has been remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre after her arraignment before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where she faced three counts of alleged criminal defamation and cyberstalking linked to online posts about colleague Mercy Johnson‑Okojie.

Angela who pleaded not guilty, arrived in court with her legal team, but her attempt at securing immediate freedom stalled when the judge declined to rule on her oral bail application, opting instead to reserve the matter for a later date.

The court ordered that she be kept in custody until the adjourned date, when her bail request will be formally argued and considered.

The charges, filed under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, accuse her of conspiring with another individual said to be at large to publish defamatory content, including harsh descriptions of Mercy Johnson on social media.

I wish people can understand the Nigerian constitution and laws. They are rich but don’t have good legal team. Cybercrime is not a joke. Don’t go to prison for “clout.”

Not how the law works, this pure bullying, was Adeyanju arrested for his talks about Peter Obi? NO he was not, that is legal process, the case is still on, this is pure bullying...

They have judged her and sentenced her already before giving her the chance to prove her claims, let it be she cannot prove her claims, that's when the court can decide to arrest her and sentence her..

This is pure bullying...

what you don't understand you don't say, so lay low. obviously one of those skipping law classes while in tertiary institute.

Obakoolex:
You said nothing tangible
Why don't you counter what he said so we can learn
you only got me cracked and thanks for that. you ended up doing what you accused me of doing so we (both) are guilty. are satisfied now.

thrillionaire:
You wey 'understand', state your case or shut it.
nobi fight now, I only teased with the end part of skipping classes in school, so please learn swallow chill pills.

@Obakoolex the truth is she being remanded in custody don't mean she has been judged, convicted or condemned. law is about Evidence, Fact and Logic. mind you there are technicalities involve we from the outside don't get to know before she was denied bail. one of it might be the judge had strong evidence she would end up a flight risk if granted bail hence the bail denial.

Babatundehy:
People like you almost always have terrible views that actually can drag a nation backwards, she would end up being a flight risk? What happened to the seizure of international passports and other measures to curtail that? What is the gravity of this crime? Is this fair treatment or a reasonable judgement from a judge that has not been bought? What has happened to politicians accused of heavy crimes in the past? How many have been remanded until before proven guilty? History reminds us people who committed m"rder and looted billions in public funds got much softer treatments, all in the face of the "law".
When someone who has got connections or knows the shameless folks we unfortunately have in positions of power decides to oppress one who doesn't, it is always funny to see how ordinary people with no meaningful surnames who are more likely to suffer the same or worse treatment come on forums to defend such maltreatment and injustice, how senseless and embarrassing!
These are the judges we have in election tribunals, the ones presiding over cases of corruption against public officials, the ones getting houses provided by a Mad Godfather who has several million naira properties with no proven source of income.
for crying out loud who let you loose? did you at all read to understand what our argument was on. it isn't about the nation or politics.

where is it written in the constitution that not granting bail at first hearing of a suit is against your human right? mind you our argument has being on expository and not politicians.

Babatundehy:
It is okay and not shocking to see your likes gain cheap and useless popularity facelessly on a public forum by flaunting your gross lack of comprehension, and ability to think even when what was posted up was in clear simple English.
That you do think this has nothing to do with politics makes you unworthy of my engagement, if you seriously think Mercy Johnson who mostly lived low-key before her recently found spot in the political space would go this route against a colleague, then you should stop taking those doses of retardium.
You mention the constitution? I laugh, do you seriously think someone with a name and connect measuring the same as that of MJ would suffer the same outcome? Is this not Nigeria where people have even refused to appear in court or even respect court orders and with no consequences? You're not Martian, it is obvious to the blind what is at play here, continue to deny the fact that this is bullying a person by hiding under the auspices of the law, cheap judges and a very corrupt legal system, there will be people like you in the commentary when it is your turn or that of a loved one to dance.
I don't do banters, you are busy drifting. you aren't in understanding of this issue, hence, I'm off this conversation.

That is not how it works bro. Pray make case no carry you go prison.

Firstly, Cyberstalking is a crime. Whether guilty or innocent. As long as it could not be settled off court before it was brought to the court. She will be remanded first since her bail terms have not been mentioned.

Secondly, after bail terms are mentioned if she could not meet it before 4pm of same day. She will still be cooling in the prison.

This is even before trial will start to determine who is guilty and who is innocent. The Judge knows that the police may have tried to settle them but e no work.

So it is after verdict is given on this case or it is overturned, that the accused can then have mouth to press charges. Until then, she go dey chop fried beans for prison.
