Soludo Threatens To Shut Private Schools That Fail To Open On Mondays by jmoore(op): 3:03pm On Jan 29
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a stern warning to private schools and shop owners across the state, threatening to seal them if they fail to resume operations on Monday, following waves of sit-at-home protests that have disrupted economic activities.

The governor made the declaration during a press briefing on Thursday, which he shared on his X page, emphasizing that the closure of markets and schools threatens the state’s economic stability and the welfare of its people.

Soludo recounted his Monday visit to key markets in the state, including the government-owned main market in Onitsha, which he described as the largest market in West Africa.

He said, “After prayer warnings, we had actually informed all markets, especially the main market, that they must be open or they will be shut down.

“We took effort to even drive through because the traders were on the road, trading. Busy, everywhere else bustling. Then you drive to the main market, and the place was under lock and key, except a few shops that were open. We decided to shut it down for the remainder of this week, and it will remain shut down.”

The governor described the ongoing closures as “a struggle for the soul of Anambra’s future.”

He stressed that the majority of the people have entrusted his administration with a mandate to protect their welfare and security.

“Almost 80% of the people have given us mandate to protect and promote their welfare and security. And that we must remain committed to doing 24/7 every day, because Monday is almost the most important day of the week. That’s when suppliers, the people demanding for goods, that’s when they must go and open up,” he said.

“So if you are not opening, people are opening, relocating elsewhere. That’s what we mean by the cost to the state.”

He also criticized the idea of limited school days, calling it “absolute nonsense” in the 21st century.

“We’re not going to train our children in the 21st century by going to school four days a week. Absolute nonsense,” he said.

“We’re going to open the schools, and we’re going to take the same measures. If you are running a private school, and you are not open, come and slam it and lock it up. Because we’ve given you permission to operate as a school, and in Anambra, school days are Monday through Friday.”

The governor stressed that this was not just about schools, but the broader economic health of the state.

“For the sake of this state, for our children, for these poor people, poor traders, poor farmers, and those who depend on these markets being open, we cannot have this,” Soludo said.

“So the struggle is to save the economy of Anambra, secure our future, save our children, keep our markets open, and reassure our investors who are pouring in now that Anambra is not a four-day week. It’s a five or six-day week. We need to reassure everybody. We are open for business.”

The schools can open their gates.

The main point is which parent will risk taking his or her child to school on Monday?

Professor, your brain no reach that side.

See ezigbote babablu. You shutdown the market from Tuesday to Saturday. It's the poor ones who live hand to mouth that you are punishing. The big men can survive months without opening their shops.

How can a professor suggest that the solution to quench fire is by pouring petrol.

Poor governor trying to reason with a population of block heads. I don't envy him at all. undecided

Good move. Illiterates will argue with him though. They are the ones who were boldly shouting "chow us the raw"on Tuesday grin

Many have said that there is no insecurity in the East and that it's outsiders that are spreading a false story about insecurity in order to give the East a bad name.

So why are some people now talking about security if this is true.

If what they have been saying all this while is true then there is absolutely nothing to be afraid of.

You are the one fully deserving of the shade you throw at Soludo, with the bolded, because you don't understand that everything must be done to abolish this evil IPOB has now made a culture of the SE.
No different to how Boko Haram etc want to enforce the proscription of "Western education" so it is replaced by Islamic teaching alone.

The shame is that other leaders and Governors , including that irresponsible charlatan Obi, remain watching silently rather than rise up alongside Soludo to show IPOB that elected and constituted authority, with the official mandate of the people, remain ready to put an end to this aberration.

It is until SE becomes like the North you lot then start touting conspiracies and looking for who to blame for your own self-inflicted ruination.

I have been watching the whole thing, noting how Soludo appears to be fighting a losing battle while most Igbos seem to tacitly endorse the actions of IPOB against a duly elected Governor, to understand you guys are something else.

Yet you still have time and energy to be focusing on attacking Yorubas and others daily while backing a senseless practice, put in place by unelected and self-styled leaders who are cultists killers and thug, that only does socio-economic damage to the SE.

Bloody dictator. Do you have enough security to secure the lives of the people if unknown gunmen and IPOB attack them?
Re: Soludo Threatens To Shut Private Schools That Fail To Open On Mondays by samuelson06(m): 3:38pm On Jan 29
Soludo won't win this. He can keep trying to please his masters.

"The main point is which parent will risk taking his or her child to school on Monday?"

You failed to tell us why pupils leaving their homes to school on Monday in your region might likely end up dead.

You people lack introspection.

All over the world, all over the other regions in Nigeria, children leave home to school like it's nothing. In fact, if you see a child playing around on Monday, you are forced to ask why he or she is not in school. It's like a taboo.

It's the other way around in your region.

You see children going to school on Monday, and you are forced to ask if they have parents or guardians or if they have death wishes. Why is this?

You have a governor who is saying enough of that nonsense. He's stamping his foot on the ground to correct this abomination but you are all here hiding behind your keyboards in the safety of Lagos to call him a mad professor. It's well.

This is an issue Obi should add his voice to and tell his people to listen to reason. But he won't because it's not happening in Lagos or other regions in Nigeria. Again, it's well.

You want to build Nigeria, you say you will prioritize education, you say you will move Nigeria from consumption to production, you cry about out of school children, you lament every market day that poverty is ravaging lives of Nigerians; however, in your region, your people don't go to work on Monday, government offices are closed, banks are closed, children are out of school, people die just for going outside, there's zero economic activities on the most important business day in the he world. Mr. Bob the builder, It's well.

A few Igbo guys are quoting me saying I am blaming the victim and that the Governor can't secure them. You guys are not ready. When you are, you will speak up with one voice against the oppression of IPOB and support your governor. You support IPOB and their oppression but protest against the governor trying to stop your oppressor. You never ready.

Instead of him to address the underlying issue, he is busy using people’s lives for his own political gains. If people go out on Monday and IPOB holds them on the road, who will come to their rescue? Soludo should calm down.

Soludo will become the worst governor in Anambra's history. My guy was busy criticizing Obi forgetting the future. Imagine telling the people to open on Mondays when he has not done enough on security. What if ipob comes in the night and destroy properties of those that disobeyed them, what will he do ? Easy said than done,mr Soludo

Good one!

If main market and co refuse to open by next Monday, close them down for the rest of the year after a month grace.

It’s not about threatening them, have you provided security for the people?

Do they feel safe?

Soludo, do your kids attend any of those schools?

Soludo is doing a great job, he acted a bit too late or maybe he was waiting for Nnamdi Kanu trial to be concluded.

But Soludo should discriminate, he should not punish everybody equally, punish some greater than others, especially the big big men.

Who will protect the people against the people who enforce this 'sit at home'?

If the state governor has shown that he has really secured the state, I believe the people will have confidence in him and damn the ipob declaration. But there is no trust, the people have lost confidence in the ability of the government to safeguard his people, do you blame them.?

When someone gets shot for flouting the ipob order, the best the state will do is to send condolences, it won't bring the person back, business destroyed will not even be compensated for. The governor is being delusional.
