You use war of attrition when you know you do not have the capability to achieve a quick victory. Secondly no sensible country invades another country with the hope of fighting a war of attrition , Ukraine used the attrition strategy during the battle of Bakhmut, they were taking losses defending Bakhmut and were also afflicting greater losses on the Wagner machine. Ukraine eventually lost Bakhmut but Wagner was also weakened. The rest of what you wrote are beer parlor hearsay.
