Anthony Joshua was almost at the brink of tears as he spoke about the trauma of losing two of his friends in a recent road accident in Nigeria.

In a video on his Instagram page on Thursday, Joshua revisited the fatal accident that happened along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29 and claimed the lives of Kevin Latif Ayodele, the boxer’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach.

The former heavyweight boxing champion was also in the Lexus SUV that rammed into a stationary truck on the expressway but he survived with minor injuries.

In the lengthy clip, Joshua thanked people around the world for their well wishes following the accident.

He added that the trip to Nigeria with Latif and Ghami started with excitement until “everything just got flipped upside on its head”.

The 36-year-old then went on to describe his late associates as his “lieutenants, general”, adding that they were also his protectors.

“I could reach out to all of you far and wide, worldwide who are showing so much love, care, support through that tragic, traumatic time where we lost Latz and Sina in Nigeria,” Joshua said.

“We had so many plans to wrap up 2025, and we were on a mission… We went back home, went to see our families, and everything just got flipped upside on its head.”

“They’re my brothers, they’re my friends first and foremost.

“We became housemates, we were living together.”

Joshua added that he is not scared of death because “I’ve got two brothers on the other side”.

He then promised to “do what’s right by their family” and to continue carrying their legacies.

“One day my time will come, and I’m not scared either at all. It’s actually comforting knowing that I’ve got two brothers on the other side,” Joshua said.

“The mission must go on… I understand my duty.

“I’m gonna do what’s right by them. I’m gonna do what’s right by their family.”

I don't even know how Joshua sleeps now. If it happened in the UK it will make sense but to carry people go your village and you no carry them come back.

Painful and Sad loss.

Joshua will always live with the tragic trauma from that accident knowing he was in the same vehicle accident that killed two of his close friends.
I pray God grant him peace and grace to carry on.

Nigeria is a crazy country where you have to be tough to live through tough situations of bad roads, no light, no security and bad politicians.
Anyone that comes with foreign mentality to live or stay in Nigeria will get a rude shocker. Anthony Joshua and his friends did .

I see amongst the questions mentioned village people, what concerns them?

Drivers are the ones killing people on our road, a higher percentage of accidents are caused by drivers for one reason which is (Disobedient to driving rules) they're several reasons why drivers are asked to follow standard speed limit, but some drivers doesn't use it!

As professionally driver you're expected to attend trainings even if you have been driving for years. This particular driver lets check if he has valid drivers licence.

Recommendation; road safety should make the road driving code rules documents available for people to download so that they can read it on their leisure time, as many people driving cars today doesn't understand highway code/road signs.
