A Sad Tale Of Dishonest FRSC Officers by Splendour99(op): 4:38am On Feb 01
Hello everyone,

On Tuesday this week, I was driving from Berger inward Ojota through the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. When I got to 7-up/toll gate area, I saw a group of FRSC officers on official duty. Before I knew it, a male FRSC officer raised his hand in front of my car and ordered me to park, which I did.

He asked for my driver's licence and car documents, which I gave him. All my car papers were valid and up to date, including my driving licence, but he held onto them.

The next thing, he started inspecting my tires. He strolled round the vehicle and came back, and then said my two front tires were expired. Truth be told, I bought the tires as Tokunbo, but they were still looking good and had good threading.

He then said, "What do you want us to do? Your two front tires are expired."

I looked at him and said I didn't know they were expired, that he should forgive me I will change the tires when I have the money to do so.

So he said he doesn't want to carry me to their office, that I should talk what I want to do.

I stayed there and begged, but he went away to call his superior, a female with a ticketing device. When they both came, she asked what the problem was, and the male officer told her my two front tires were expired.

So she said, "What do you want us to do? I am already typing your ticket."

I then said I don't have money. She said she will write ticket.

But I was on an emergency that morning and didn't want to be delayed by them. So I asked the female officer, "how much do you want to collect?"

She said I should bring 35k. I said ha, I only have 5k in my account. She said I should transfer it to the male officer's account.

I said okay, that they should give me their account number. So I collected the account number from the male officer, and I then paused and checked online to see that the official frsc fine for driving with expired tires was not up to 5k.

So I told them 5k was my last money, that how do they want me to go about driving with nothing in my account.

So the male officer, sensing I was about to do something fishy with his account number, called the female superior and said I was not cooperating.

She then asked if there is any problem. I told her that I cannot transfer the 5k because it was all I had. She then looked at me sternly and said I should be going, that next time they will catch me and issue me ticket.

That was how I left there that day.

When I got home, I checked some things online and found out that collecting of, and giving of bribe is illegal in the FRSC rulebook. But what I wondered was why they were initially demanding 35k from me. I used to respect FRSC, but this incident has made me lose that respect.

Any advice or criticisms are welcome.

They know much better, if they sense you would have been defiant they would have added more offence that would total above the expected charges and also delay you

Nigerians are always in emergencies...

Always rushing to nowhere. undecided

Frsc was one of the most respected and organized agencies. I have had many encounters with them that made me earn their respect.

From the stories of experiences I hear now seems that has changed or is changing!

Why beg them in the first instance, he is only notifying you that your tyre has expired. Which you ought to have just told him oh okay thank you.
