This news ordinarily should elicit optimistic and positive reactions from all sensible Nigerian. Since the IMF published the stats, folks who primarily come from the SE have done everything humanly possible to attack and condemn the news. While Chinese, Indians and nationals of other countries mentioned in the top ten went under the tweet to project their countries positively, these set of Nigerians who support Peter Obi went under the tweet to attract IMF and world of statistics. South African and a lot of Europeans went under same tweet to bash their government for not doing enough to make the top ten. In fact, some Europeans appealed to IMF to present the EU as a country so that the EU can make the top ten. That’s how much other countries value the achievement. But in Nigeria, these haters are attacking everybody because Nigeria achieved what a lot of other countries are struggling to achieve. They are so pained and angry. Sadly for them, our economic growth is on a very high trajectory. It is unstoppable. The country shall continue to get better and they shall continue to get angry. |

When I said both Egypt and South Africa are using old glory about their economy, some people didn't understand then. South Africa is indebted, they can't do much while Egypt are exhausted financially with their new city in the desert Btw, imagine someone below claiming high GDP is not by production but by population, abeg is South Africa having population than Nigeria? How some people are hell bent not to see the development of Nigeria and also not worried about the way they have been sounding and behaving about good news about Nigeria should be something worrisome Modified: When it comes to purchasing power, using Nigeria minimum wage as measure could be misleading . Average Nigerian workers don't only rely on salary, they rely on friends and family who are rich. Nigeria purchasing power is higher than south Africa as things are more cheap to afford in Nigeria compared to South Africa . Iphone usage is a good reference example |

Lmaooo once you See APC paid write up you just know Nigeria GDP is not bigger than South Africa GDP we are 40% or more short off Real GDP contribution is largely driven by population and not productivity You know the painful part? APC guys know this but would still push the wrong narrative Same when they started measuring GDP in PPP lol |

The way GDP is calculated is wrong. Explain how it is possible for a country's GDP to reduce by fifty percent in one year when the people were not genocided. |

lawani:Because they are indebted to so many organizations, they can't borrow anyhow while they are not adjusting their tax rate. The opposition have been against it.most especially Malema |

helinues:So that will now make the production in the country to go down by half in one year? I am referring to Nigeria and not SA |

lawani:Which new production have been going in South Africa for years now? South Africans are now having up Nepa issue, happening for 2 years now Tell me which of their sectors is leading other African countries |
| Re: How Nigeria Knocked Out South Africa In Global GDP Contributions by lawani(m): 9:07am On Feb 02 |
helinues:Did SA GDP reduce by fifty percent in one year? I am referring to Nigeria. SA may have its challenges but it is still the number one immigrant worker destination in Africa. Their tax to GDP ratio is not bad. Their budget is like 140 billion dollars for 50 million people. Their GDP can't be much higher than 500 billion dollars. They have one of the best public health care in Africa and they are fast becoming like western Europe. They are more or less a welfare state now just like western Europe Then you don't need to lead in anything to be a good country. Just pay taxes and use it for general good. What is a country like Australia leading in? |

People should learn to read before posting articles. According to your article south Africa growth is constrained by power issues and logistics and trade. Between sa and Nigeria whose power problems is worse. Who has greater logistics issue. Whose export is greater |
| Re: How Nigeria Knocked Out South Africa In Global GDP Contributions by helinues: 9:12am On Feb 02 |
lawani:My arguments is not based on how much percentage of SA GDP reduction, but how things have been stagnant in South Africa for years but people are not paying attention. I wrote about it on this same forum saying both South Africa and Egypt are using old glory to lead the Africa economy or GDP as the reality is saying otherwise. South Africa as an example, they are not used to generator because they always have light, even when they have few hours light off sometimes, their weather is friendly not to required Fan or Ac. But when they started having 12 hours light rotation, it caught them unaware. Majority of those running frozen business shut down or downside within 6 months Why do you think operation Dudula have been lousy , attacking immigrants, it's because more businesses are shutting down and they are blaming the foreigners of taking the little jobs remaining |

seunmsg:seunmsg, listen carefully, once you have to drag tribes and political opponents into an IMF chart, you’ve already lost the economic argument. No one is angry that Nigeria may grow. People are angry that this so-called “growth” hasn’t translated to low cost of living, stable food prices, stable electricity, jobs, basic health care or security of lives and property. Patriotism is not pretending pain doesn’t exist. Celebrating projections while dismissing real suffering isn’t optimism, it’s propaganda. |

Nigeria is the largest country in Africa in terms of population. It is only natural that we will make the largest contribution to global GDP from the continent. What exactly are we celebrating here, and is this also one of Tinubu's achievements? Agbadorians sef! |

AMINDA:WRONG. IT IS NOT "NATURAL" OR ETHIOPIA and DR CONGO WOULD BE THE 2ND AND 3RD LARGEST GDP CONTRIBUTOR IN AFRICA, SINCE THEY HAVE THE NEXT LARGEST POPULATIONS AFTER NIGERIA. YET THEY ARE NOWHERE TO BE SEEN ON ANY LIST! SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED TO BE A REAL MAN, AND ADMIT THE TRUTH! |
| Re: How Nigeria Knocked Out South Africa In Global GDP Contributions by Ojuntana: 12:14pm On Feb 02 |
seunmsg:You really can't blame Obidients. They learnt well from BATists. In 2013 on the sidelines of the WEF, President Jonathan had an interview with Amanpour where he spent most of the interview projecting Nigeria in very good light, talking about how we have been going about solving our agelong and systemic problems especially in the power sector. BATists jumped like e-rats and started attacking him with Amaechi's laptops while the interview was ongoing, claiming the whole country was in darkness and using uncouth words to describe the leader of the country. Things got so bad that even Amanpour was forced to reference the tweets and asked Jonathan why his citizens differed so strongly with the picture he was painting. I'm sure the scenario was all well and good to you then. Today, you are wailing about haters, bitterness etc etc. You brought rat-infested wood into the house. Don't complain at the visit of lizards!! |

lawani:In terms of actual productivity, our economy did not go down. In fact, our economy experienced real growth as seen in our GDP IN naira. The reduction in our USD GDP is simply as a result of devaluation of our currency. Under Buhari, they calculated the GDP using an official exchange rate of $1=N460. Tinubu floated the exchange rate and we moved to $1=N1450 as official exchange rate. So, the exchange rate differentials accounted for the reduction in the USD GDP while in reality, our Naira GDP has increased tremendously and that's the actual test of our productivity. |
