Back in the days. There was this prominent chief we looked up to. He carried us along. Some selected few were allowed into his inner parlor and I was among them. Big knee high bottle with live snake swimming in gin. He took first and fetched for us. I drank it but it was a one time thing though

Have you ever seen people drinking local gin from a bottle containing snake before? It is common among the riverine people of Southern Nigeria, especially, the Ijaws and Urhobos. They call it snake wine.

People take it for different reasons. Some take it for protection against snake bite, while others take it with the belief that it prevents snakes from coming close to them or harming them.

HOW IT IS DONE: It is usually done with a live snake forced into a bottle. Dead snakes are not used. Then local gin is poured into the bottle. The strong nature of the gin kills the snake and the bottle is shaken vigorously with the snake inside. It is then served by pouring into glass cups for everyone to enjoy.
This is not true oga. These are snakes soaked into different preservatives and chemical majorly for practicals purposes in schools and research centers . Which one is snake wine. Go to first generation schools and you will see them in their biology laboratories.

Thanks

It's better to keep off or quiet when you're ignorant of what's being discussed, at least people will assume you have something meaningful to share.

Snake ogogoro or wine?

I wonder the kind of wine Jesus converted water iinto?
It was wine i.e alcoholic wine, not grape juice.

It was not grape juice that got the wedding guests excited.

The fact that you are ignorant of what He is saying, doesn't mean it is not meaningful.

The first time I saw snakes in jars like this was in our secondary school science lab decades ago. Some of the pictures in the post look like those lab containers.

I have seen people drink gin from a bottle that has cowries properly arranged in circles inside the bottle. I wonder what that is for.

It worked so many things on me. It helped me have flat Tommy

It cured my waist pain. It also helps for sexual enhancement.

It will help you last longer on bed without getting tired.

You probably know nothing and obviously na your type dey cheat to pass exams. Now the topic is about snake wine, the thread is about snake wine and then someone commented and quoted the op saying "it's not true" meaning there's nothing like snake wine. And here you come again telling us about laboratory snakes like its new or alien to labs in schools. If we dig deeper now all your foundational education were gotten from substandard schools.

Extremely rare & very strange indeed.
Snakes generally shy away from humans, unless you carelessly stumble upon it in the bush or its territory.
a black mamba doesn't need any form of provocation to strike a human being. It's an extremely aggressive snake. Some of our politicians are black mambas in human form.

No, I've never drunk from a bottle with a snake in it and never will.

I was once offered tequila in Mexico City though, and was told the gold in it would make me goldy, and I failed to convince the foøl offering it that the gold colouring was either caramel coloring, sugar-based syrup, or oak extract added to unaged silver tequila.

What annoyed was being asked to pay above the odds for it, because it pretty much sounded like a babalawo asking for payment in advance for juju money instead of afterwards with the juju money.

I doubt I could be convinced a drink with a snake in it would immunize one to snake bites, but if anyone wants to prove me wrong ..........

God forbid I take this rubbish. I’m sure the human version exists. Trust Africans to catch an innocent person and drown him/her in a drum full of alcohol. Their marketing slogan will be that the solution gives endless stamina, sex drive, wealth, good luck or courage.

I look at you guys and laugh. I have seen a snake go for a little boy who is playing, who wasnt even aware of the presence of the snake. I have seen people bitten by snakes in their sleep. Except I never jam the snake, if not, it is dead
