Do you understand how the naira got to 1,400? Do you even understand how currency prices are fixed.

Don't be ignorant. That rate you're talking about was being subsidized. It was not the real rate. Government was defending the Naira to keep it at the rate, yet the rate kept falling.

Today, no foreign exchange subsidy, and the rates keep improving.

let only this type of dollar good news, from 400 to 1400 locate you and remain with you and your family for 1400 years.

Since this is the good news you celebrate, let it remain permanent in your life.

Can I hear you say a loud Amen?

huh
I'm already living my reality. The N400/$ was a fraudulent and fake platform. A country who imports trillions on litres of petrol and import practically everything has no business expecting strong currency.
You better face your own reality

Was that not how good news was painful to All Promises Cancelled, APC leaders looters in their packaging of Tinubu's 2011 expired Buhari as change messiah four years later huh

How much per litre are Nigerians forced to pay as subsidy to this APC government for the massive corruption in the oil sector? Any idea? What is your guess?
I'm not a member or an advocate of APC, but I'm 💯 in support of the reforms of the current administration, Nigeria as a country has no options than to find its way back to recovery. I'm bearing the pain also, but it could have been worse.
Look at the wasteful fuel subsidy!

Maybe your education was a waste afterAll if you cant define goodnews at your AGE

Lets not even talk about Buhari time or past leaders ... 2025 $1 drop to almost 1100, how do you expect sane Nigerians to celebrate or laud 1450 as goodnews

Do you even know what it implies for your two highiest currency to exchange just for $1
How is it goodnews
How is this the creation of the current administration? I'm in total support of the current reforms which by the way should have been done way back during the government of Yaradua/GEJ. The tackless Buhari, who apparently does not know a thing about economy simply made it worse.
But for the removal of the wasteful subsidy and merger of the two tier currency, it would have been hell now.
I may not be a political fan of PBAT, but I'm 💯 with him on the reforms

Why is A-looter Propaganda Conmen, APC presidents borrowing more money than PDP presidents despite removing subsidy TWICE in the last 11 years? What happened to the trillions of Naira and billions of dollars saved from subsidy removal in 2016 AND in 2023?

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has disclosed that the federal government has so far saved the sum of N1.4 trillion for not paying oil subsidy.

He also assured Nigerians that very soon, the foreign exchange market would stabilise going by some radical policies already introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The vice president who spoke in Kano yesterday during the third day of the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development meeting, urged Nigerians to restore confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, insisting that soonest, the current economic problems would become a thing of the past.

“With the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, there has been a significant increase in the availability of petrol throughout the country for the savings of N1.4 trillion on subsidy payments alone,” he said.

“Also, a more flexible exchange rate regime, we will have to decrease the pressure on the external reserve. In the short run of course, there should be consequences for inflation. We expect that with greater priority we have seen in the implementation of the policy by the CBN, the foreign exchange market will stabilise and confidence will be restored.

You ask those questions from APC spoke person, I'm not one. But what I know is that Nigeria was at its knee when this Government took over power in 2023, we were borrowing money to pay salaries and borrow to pay debt, over N30 trillion Ways and Means, the fraudulent two tier exchange rates, one for the powerful, the other for the ordinary people. We have sold our crude 6years production upfront! collected the money and spent, It was bad. If any succeeding government was not as courageous as the current administration, we will all have been on our knees now
Re: Naira Posted Its First Annual Gain In 13 Years by LongT(m): 9:42am On Feb 03
It is true that many people are ignorant of how the exchange rate truly works, albeit it's correlation to prices of goods and services in the market which is very much rational. To those that gloat on people's ignorance of the topic by attacking first hand, it will do you guys greater good if you channel such negative energies to educating the people rather than insult their intelligence. Nigerian factor is like ebb and flow, while we are singing praises of nairas appreciation on paper, it truly does not translate into our living condition.

Incidentally I'm not a member of APC and didn't even vote for PBAT in the 2023 election, but I had long believed that we need a bold reformists, we lost the opportunity for a decent reforms during Yaradua/GEJ to regig the economy for prosperity, GEJ was too weak a leader, that's why opposition like Bola Ahmed could heck him to submission on his reforms such as the removal of petrol subsidy and the political reform that he wasted billions and the report went into archive.
Oh be sure that PBAT will have my vote in 2027 except I could have others on the ballot that will take the reforms a notch further than him

Nigeria’s public debt hits ₦152.4trn in Q2 2025 — DMO
October 11, 2025

NIGERIA’S total public debt stock has climbed to ₦152.40 trillion as of June 30, 2025.

This is according to new data released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) on Friday.

The figure represents an increase of ₦3.01 trillion or 2.01 per cent from ₦149.39 trillion recorded at the end of March 2025. In dollar terms, the total debt rose from $97.24 billion to $99.66 billion, reflecting a 2.49 per cent increase within three months.

The latest figures underscore the Federal Government’s growing dependence on both domestic and external borrowing to finance fiscal shortfalls, even as ongoing revenue reforms and foreign exchange liberalisation continue to reshape Nigeria’s economic outlook.

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.

Petrol war: Importers outpace domestic refineries with 62% supply in 2025
January 19, 2026 1:47 am

According to the newly released NMDPRA factsheet on the state of the midstream and downstream petroleum sector, as analysed by our correspondent on Sunday, total national petrol consumption by Nigerians stood at approximately 18.97 billion litres in 2025, with oil marketing companies accounting for 11.85 billion litres through imports, highlighting the market’s continued dependence on foreign supply.

This means that nearly two-thirds of petrol consumed by Nigerians in 2025 was sourced from imports, while domestic refineries contributed about 7.54 billion litres, representing 37.53 per cent of total consumption, the regulator stated.

You obviously lack understanding of basic economics. Borrowing is not the problem, the problem is what you are borrowing to do.
When you borrow to finance infrastructures especially those assets that can generate revenue for self servicing, then it's proper (tolled Road as an example), so I support completely borrowing money to do the Coastal Road to be tolled, Lagos Ibadan expressway should be tolled, markudi to Enugu should be tolled, Ibadan to Kaduna, A1 should be tolled. Those tolled Road will maintain themselves and free resources to fix our basic areas of about failing like Education, Primary Healthcare etc.
So get educated
