FG did not Approve Textbook Excluding Igbo History For JSS Class - Tunji Alausa by fergie001(op): 11:51am On Feb 03
Claim: There were viral reports that the Igbo history was excluded from the "Living History", a book allegedly approved by the NERDC for Junior Secondary class 1.

A lot of posts on X had accused the FG of sidelining the Igbo tribe by excluding its history from the said approved textbook.

The Federal Government vehemently denies this.

EDUCATION MINISTER, MARUF TUNJI ALAUSA reacts
Education thrives on truth. Unity thrives on understanding.

My attention has been drawn to misleading reports and public discussions surrounding a History textbook titled “Living History,” including claims alleging the exclusion of Igbo content and suggestions that the book has been approved for use in Nigerian schools.

I wish to state clearly, firmly, and unequivocally that “Living History” is NOT an approved textbook and has not been recommended for use in any Nigerian school by the Federal Ministry of Education.

For the avoidance of doubt, the book was never submitted to or approved by the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

I encourage the public to support responsible discourse, reject divisive misinformation, and verify the approval status of educational materials through official channels before adoption or use.

For verified information on approved textbooks, stakeholders should consult the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

‘LIVING HISTORY’ TEXTBOOK NOT APPROVED FOR NIGERIAN SCHOOLS: FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The Federal Ministry of Education has taken note of misleading reports and public discussions regarding a History textbook titled “Living History,” including allegations of content exclusion and claims that the book is approved for use in Nigerian schools.

The Ministry states clearly, firmly, and unequivocally that “Living History” is NOT an approved textbook and has not been recommended for use in any Nigerian school by the Federal Ministry of Education.

For clarity, the book was never submitted to the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the statutory body responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and approving instructional materials in line with the national curriculum. Consequently, it was neither assessed nor recommended by NERDC and does not appear on the official list of approved History textbooks.

Following consultations with NERDC leadership and a review of the endorsed textbook list aligned with the revised curriculum, it has been confirmed that “Living History” is not an approved instructional material for nationwide use.

The Ministry therefore urges parents, teachers, school proprietors, administrators, and the general public to disregard misinformation and refrain from using unapproved textbooks. The use of such materials undermines curriculum standards and may negatively affect learning outcomes.

Approved textbooks reflect Nigeria’s cultural diversity, shared history, and national values. Stakeholders are advised to verify approvals through official NERDC channels.

Education thrives on truth. Unity thrives on understanding.

You won't ever find a book like this in public schools.Private school operators adopt the use of textbooks based on their personal interests

So which book is approved for Igbo History?

Or none is approved?

So if books are not submitted for Igbo History, the subject will not be thought? Because this minister is non-the-wiser.

Place a ban on it if it isn't good enough to be in our schools. The Government have the power to also make sure such books are not approved, to avoid issues like this in future.
Re: FG did not Approve Textbook Excluding Igbo History For JSS Class - Tunji Alausa by stasius: 12:07pm On Feb 03
Maybe the book is about the history of a particular tribe in Nigeria and not the whole Nigeria.
Who are the co-authors?
Any co-authors from the other tribes? Hausa, Igbo,Ibibio,Idoma etc?

If there are no contributors from the other tribes trash the book or reserve it for the tribe it is meant for.

Simple.

But who are those mindless authors who write an history book, and remove or modify the history of one region.

That alone should be a crime and they should be prosecuted and banned from authoring any book, going forward.

You can't champion one Nigeria and still ostracized a region - especially when they have been protesting for self sovereignty.

Damn! I hate this country.

What would the history say?

That Igbo are descended from Jews?

The authors probably didn't want to say anything contrary to the ridiculous claim and face heat.

I understand what you are trying to do there but let me tell you categorical that the fear of Igbo domination haskept so many people awake, delirious and exhausted for centuries. Please take this message back to your people, their fear of domination not withstanding, Igbo man just wants to succeed in any environment he finds himself and they are succeeding both home and away regardless of any hostility.

Then, they shouldn't have written the book at all.

Or should have labeled it the history of Fulani and Yorubas.

These people will go to any length to push a victimhood and marginalisation narrative to score cheap political points, demonising others while playing the saints, all just to have their way in politics and beyond.

Have you read the book? It says Ronuists are descendants of a fallen god. Does this even make sense?

Can someone tell us precisely where Igbos originated from.

I am publicly staking 100k now. Post it here and I'll transfer the money.

Present a factual account of Igbo origin widely accepted and undisputed by all Igbos.

The reactors never ever condemned such a book if it existed. They are only here to issue a rebuttal.

I didn't refute anything.
Igbos bring a story of Igbo history. You accept it and another set of Igbos disclaim it and bring another one.

What exactly is the true history of Igbos in Nigeria?
