That Makoko must go. It’s not fit for human or animal living. I was born in Iwaya and lived there for about three decades, but now I am flying from Europe to Asia, from Australia to America having a taste of different bittches. Iwaya and Makoko are twin communities. As a matter of fact, the first police station in that corridor was named Iwaya-Makoko Police post. The first bank in that corridor was Iwaya-Makoko Community Bank, even the first NEPA office was named Iwaya-Makoko NEPA post. If you are rejected by Iwaya girls because of your negative record, then you try Makoko girls. Most of the people in Makoko/Ilaje are from Ondo waterside and Ijaw. Another set of people there are from Badagary area of Lagos and the last group are Benin Republic citizens some of who have families in Badagary as a result of the 1840s Berlin Conference which divided Africa into countries. It is not that these people cannot afford to live an average life in a decent community, but they just decided to live in that horrible society. Some have many wives and uncountable children like Atiku Abubakar. They need to go, they cannot continue living in that state. |

simpleseyi:While I second this, the govt should provide the people there a temporary shelter somewhere...outskirts of the city for few months for them to get their lives sorted gradually. Compassion should reign. |
| Re: Lagos Assembly Bows To Pressure, Suspends Demolitions In Makoko by simpleseyi: 5:52am On Feb 04 |
humberjade:. They can afford to do that themselves. They just don’t want to. Is government the one paying your own house rent? Definitely not. This doesn’t mean that it is so easy for you to pay, but you know that food, clothing and shelter are the basic necessities of life, not many children, side chicks and alcohol |

SlavaUkraini:The demolitions are being carried out by the executive. House resolutions are not binding on the executive however maybe the executive had already told the house that it will stop the demolitions |

| Re: Lagos Assembly Bows To Pressure, Suspends Demolitions In Makoko by codemaniacs: 6:17am On Feb 04*. Modified: 7:28am On Feb 04 |
humberjade:Government does not need to provide shelter for them. From the way you comment then You are not the one paying rent or property taxes in the house you are currently living in. When your rent finishes do you go and tell the government to provide shelter for you ![]() Makoko is an environmental disaster and must be totally demolished. |

Very upright decision. I would have just change my mind not to vote for APC in the next election |
| Re: Lagos Assembly Bows To Pressure, Suspends Demolitions In Makoko by Tooreda: 6:58am On Feb 04 |
codemaniacs:As simple as that. When you see APC data boys supporting evil here and there, you can be very sure they are the overfed toddlers who heavily depend on their parents for survival and are yet to shoulder any responsibility. |

simpleseyi:Congratulations on your travelling around but all of us cannot fly around, all of us cannot be rich, and all of us cannot be the same but all of us deserves human divinity and respect.. Every slum can be transformed and every area can feel govt presence with the right investment.. What stopped the govt from investing in the the area for the people to live a good and average life.. Austria was built around waterways.. This idea of using una life standard to judge others teens of hypocrisy and ego.. That you support a govt doesn't means you should lose your humanity.. |
| Re: Lagos Assembly Bows To Pressure, Suspends Demolitions In Makoko by simpleseyi: 7:03am On Feb 04 |
Peliman:. We don’t need their votes there. The entire South Easy votes is insignificant, not to talk of just Makoko |
| Re: Lagos Assembly Bows To Pressure, Suspends Demolitions In Makoko by simpleseyi: 7:07am On Feb 04 |
hegelian:. That slum is gone already. Everyone must not live in Lagos. If you leave Ondo waterside, Ijaw area and Benin Republic to live on the Lagos Lagoon, you already know that you will be ejected one day. Only if you spend a day there, then you will know that it is not a place humans or animals should live |

SlavaUkraini:Lagos State did NOT bow to any pressure. This is pure sensationalism on the part of the journalist and the newspaper editor. Tbh, that place isn't conducive for human habitation. After watching series of drone shots and videos of the shanties and polluted lagoon water around that place, it's important to NOT only demolish the illegal structures recently constructed close to the dangerous high tension power lines, it's important to bring the entire settlement down! I noticed that the schools located on the lagoon water also used French as a language of instruction in some videos and articles I read, so, it's very obvious that a lot of those living there are NOT from Nigeria but from Benin Republic and Togo. Residents do all their toilet activities right inside the water and their is high child mortality rate there. There's also allegedly the biggest seafood market in that area and you can imagine the source of a lot of the acquatic foods on sale. The so-called NGOs collecting money from their sponsors abroad are the real enemies of those Makoko people and Lagos in general by launching propaganda campaigns against the government. Lagos State just announced a plan to redevelop that area. If people are going to live on top of the lagoon, it MUST be properly spaced out like Ganvie settle in Benin Republic. Benin Republic has a beautiful water settlement that international tourists visit regularly called Ganvie which is well-planned and it's the real Venice of Africa. |

Dalohad:For the Fact that they have gone beyond officially marked powerline areas, what they are doing is illegal and abuse of power The publicity and the cry of community is getting louder which is not good ...1yr to election for Tinubu or for lagos successor remember Tinubu lose lagos last election, without makoko grievance they dont know how lagosians we take it to the election |

Emmolap:Bro Politicians will bow to little children sef if election is around the corner, from 2026 to 2027 election this is the time Politicians become friendly with neighbours, church members and everyone they cross path with they know can vote. With the way the makoko residents are protesting and making noise, opposition might take advantage that is one risk Tinubu wont want to take 1year to election |
