Do you remember running to be the first to rent the latest film that had just come out? Or the one were you want to be the first 10 to watch the latest film such that on the day it is to be returned by the person who rented it, you would go to the video club about 3times that day before you get to see the person dropping it?

In my case i even knew the people who beat me to rent it in my area so I changed and use my cousin's video club card in mega plaza just so I could be first or join the first.
Shout out to Iziren, Femi and Dapo una be the gees for movies

Yes, true.

Those days. While returning back home, we will queue up in one video renting shop . The time of Evil dead movie ( if you can still remember the movie), Jamina (one Indian movie), Ninty minutes in Entebe. My dad used to rent movie from British Council, Enugu that time. Movies such as Dracula.

British council, that place was loaded. They also had lots of books there. Never knew they had a branch in Enugu. I was conversant with the one in Ibadan back then.

Even renting of Blue filmm that year

Na from VCD I begin to peruse bluefilm back in those days in 2000s

OP it was called "video club'

It's funny how people were honest back then. Everyone returned the video cassette or CD borrowed.

I rem back in the early 90s when it was the craze to work in video club.....i use to admire them and their uniform, colourful t-shirt and black trousers. Thank God i left Lagos to Abuja and got a much better job with FG.

Though still available in my area

My sister had one in the 2000's...

She made a lot of money then renting movies and selling/distribution in bulk to retailers.

The business became shaky in the late 2000s with the arrival of cable tv and crashed completely much later with stronger reception of people to Internet movies- tiktok, you tube.

It was very solid business at the time. She built a bakery and a restaurant from it. I used to go to her shop to help out then when I came home for holidays!

Go ask your sister well well if other side businesses join.

Im not saying it wasn't profitable.

But to build restaurant and bakery out of it?

Back then some of them had mini viewing centres/cinema for watching Nigerian and foreign movies
