The Presidency has fired back at opposition politicians, especially the African Democratic Congress, ADC, after a global report named Lagos the world’s fastest-growing emerging tech ecosystem.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, celebrated the news on his verified X handle (@aonanuga1956), taking a direct swipe at critics.

“ADC must not read this,” he posted, warning that “desperate politicians, always on the lookout for negative statistics, will be unhappy that Tinubu’s Nigeria has recorded a global tech recognition.”

The ranking comes from Global Statistics’ list of the top 20 fastest-growing emerging technology ecosystems worldwide. Lagos claimed the number one spot, surpassing cities like Istanbul (Türkiye), Pune and Mumbai (India), and Belo Horizonte (Brazil) across Asia, Africa, and South America.

Onanuga positioned the accolade as a sharp rebuttal to what he called the opposition’s “persistent negative narratives” on Nigeria’s economy and governance.

The ADC has been vocal in criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly on economic reforms.

This recognition highlights Lagos’ booming startup scene, innovation drive, and rising influence in the global digital economy—positive news amid ongoing political sparring.

Bayo Onanuga should cover his head in shame while mocking both himself and the government he serves.

How absurd is it to celebrate a report called “Lagos: the world’s fastest-growing emerging tech ecosystem” when, under the Tinubu regime he champions, mandatory electronic transmission of election results is deliberately rejected and discarded by an APC-controlled Senate in an age defined by ICT and technology?

If you thought the office of the Presidency was bad under PDP, wait until you got APC whose media aides to the President called their citizens WAILERS and engage in all types of opposition politics. The Presidency is an institution, you should know when to separate politics from governance but NO. If you think I am just a critique of this government, no. The Ajuri guy was the most mature man to be in that position. He understood the brief and did not belittle the office of the Presidency to unnecessary matters that doesn't concern it. He brought decency and respect to that office. Then we can go back a bit to Abati and Adesina for Jonathan and Yar'Adua respectively. But you see these ones, FROM Garba Shehu tó Adesina to all of them currently, politics is their currency. They are what Jonathan brought Okupe to the fray for, something Abati could not do because of his professional experience. They are Yes men and attach dogs🤡

A place without stable electricity no efficient data center and cloud infra or even stable Internet is not a tech hub. When we are talking of tech hub in Africa the likes of Kigali, Cape Town , Cairo and Nairobi comes to play. Lagos is just one of the largest tech markets bcs of its population undecided
