Another misplaced priority.
Embarking on such project should be the least of ECOWAS priorities considering the fact that the ecowas region is bedeviled by insurgency.
Insurgency dey your pikin dey go school, insurgency dey you still dey eat, insurgency dey brewery dey produce beer. Should the ecowas subregion shut down entirely because of insurgency? What are you saying?

Ecowas didn't contribute a penny to the project, it was a free gift from the government of China to West africa.

This reeks of ignorance wrapped in delusion and worthlessness.

Does Nigeria have electricity to power that huge building or they will go and mount solar panels like Tinubu did in Aso Villa?
Re: Newly Constructed ECOWAS Headquarters In Abuja by boringdraw: 9:48pm On Feb 04
The edifice was donated to ECOWAS by the Chinese government. Zero financing from member nations.

China donated the Secretariat of the African Union in Ethiopia also. It was later discovered the building was bugged by Chinese intelligence to eaves drop on closed door meetings between African nations.

You know African leaders never learn, so ECOWAS has accepted a donation from same country again.
African leaders are FOOLS

What happened to the other headquarters which is a landmark structure?
From the video, it appears China is financing the project. This should never have happened if this sub region was not dysfunctional.
I was just about to ask the same.

That magnificient structure in Asokoro. shocked

Can you kids stop being silly? Always Negative and complaining!
what exactly have those kids benefited from Nigeria? The last time I checked, most public schools now pay some certain levies, almost nothing is free in primary health centers, maybe just 10pieces of paracetamol, they restored power (electricity) in one area one time and it looked strange to a small boy because he has not seen it before (I was told and I believed it). Many more like that but you called them silly because the said their mind which is very correct. Bros, that’s not negativity they are saying the obvious fact.

Ecowas should be beyond an edifice. What happens to the regional currency "ECO" they've been talking about for years? What are they doing to ensure democratic stability in all member's state?

If they operate in a 3 Bedroom Bungalow and the West African block is progressing, it's better. The edifice means nothing if the people's life are not improving.

Or maybe they figure ''What's there to eavesdrop on? We have no big secrets we're hiding. China is paranoid. Just put up the damn building with your FREE big money. Bug the toilets if it makes you sleep better at night. Whoever builds it will still bug it, even America and Germany.''

Is ECOWAS still in existence? ECOWAS that is now a stool with 1½ legs, yet you're spending unavailable resources for nonsense project that's totally not beneficial to citizens. Talk about waste of resources, don't come and tell me it was built free of charge because a Chinese man does not give anything for free; he's either executing your projects or taking out your raw natural resources 😕😕😕
It is financed and not donated

The building is very ok . Otherwise, the host government should have added some cash to the one provided by China to take the floors from 10,10,12 to at least 5 extra more floors for each.
IThis is still achievable with steel beams and plates

Well naturally as Sierra Leonean, I would’ve agreed with you. But you have to understand that Abuja is the Hq city of ECOWAS and Nigeria is the biggest face of ECOWAS

It's really sad for Nigeria how so many Nigerian adults can be routinely, unnecessarily and ignorantly bitter like this.

The project cost $32 million USD and js fully funded by China out of it's diplomacy outreach effort to keep her a strategic partner of Nigeria in front of others.

China wants to stay ahead of nations like USA that, under Trump, is now looking to build greater incentive-driven economic ties with Africa out of fear of China's increasing influence and impending dominance of the world's mineral and natural resources market.

Kudos to China and congratulations to Nigeria becoming more of a FDi (foreign direct investment) beautiful bride to the world today.Ignorant haters can continue hating.

How China-built Ecowas headquarters is latest ‘concrete symbol’ of Africa ties.

Beijing’s strategy to project influence through gifting prestigious presidential palaces and parliamentary buildings labelled ‘unique’

China is cementing its image as a lasting partner across Africa by gifting high-profile infrastructure, such as presidential palaces and parliament buildings. A key example is the new US$32 million Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) headquarters in Abuja.

Funded by China and set for handover by the end of January, this centralised complex for the 15-member bloc aims to boost staff productivity and cut operational costs. On December 4, Chinese ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai visited the site to review progress and met with the president of the Ecowas Commission, Dr Omar Touray.

Yu hailed the building as a “landmark project of bilateral cooperation” and a strong example of South-South cooperation. Touray, in turn, said the construction, which began in 2022, symbolised “Beijing’s commitment” to regional integration.

Make una dey get sense and try show sey una go even primary school na. Your question is like asking what Dutch folks have benefitted from having the ICJ, International Court of Justice, at the Haque in Netherlands.

ECOWAS is an economic bloc of nations like the EU. Having it's Headquarters in Nigeria is a bad or negative thing how? Especially when such is a gift paid for by China? how does youe question make sense?
