US troops invading in such a terrain, will be facing the most difficult landscape since Vietnam.

Iran can mine the entire strait overnight rendering it impassable to ships for a long time. The price of oil will shoot up massively and global economies will be even under more pressure than normal.

All Saudi and Qatari oil fields are within the reach of Iranian missiles and drones. If Arabia and Qatar permit the US to launch attacks on Iran from bases within these countries, Iran is going to light up their oil fields like Christmas trees. This reason alone is why Qatar and Saudi Arabia are strongly pressuring the US to stand down and back off any attacks.

This is not the first time that USA will face Iran directly. It has happened before and it was a huge humiliation coupled with death and destruction of US forces. That defeat cost a sitting US President his Presidency yet the Americans captured spent 442 days in Iran captivity. They were released to Ronald Reagan.

It will be an asymmetric war and US will lose. People will die on both sides and that is what reasonable people are trying to avert. Every life is important.
